Biden considering dropping out (Update: Biden drops out)

Cenk of TYT is saying there has to be an open convention.

I don’t agree.

I am going to speculate that Harris will do better than Biden with women and black voters, and possibly with Asian-American voters. Without the Gaza baggage, she’d probably do better with other groups as well (young voters, Middle-Eastern), and energize Democrats more generally to vote (similar to Obama). Again, speculating. There is no comparison of Harris to Clinton - the GOP wont have years to smear Harris.

And after all they’ve done to push Biden to get out the NYT has put this article on their website with this subheading - As Republicans rally around Donald J. Trump, Democrats are circling President Biden like sharks.

The irony, it burns.

I never read the NYT growing up and certainly haven’t had any respect for it for the past 20 years or so.

After struggling down the plane steps he had to be helped into the limo and was seen putting on an oxygen mask. He might not make it to the weekend to make any announcements.

Seriously. It sounds like a joke, but at that age you can just die. People don’t seem to get it. I lived through it with my mom very recently.

If you’re talking about Biden primary voters (and I’m one of them), I don’t see how they can feel the election was stolen from them if their man voluntarily drops out. The big election is in November, they can vote then.

I think Biden not endorsing Harris makes it so that the convention is open and anyone can win. Of course it will be Harris and once it’s official, Biden will endorse her.

If Biden steps down, we don’t have a VP at all because a new one will never be approved by the House. And we lose the tie breaker vote in the Senate. If something happens to Harris it’s President Johnson (III).

What a month. We could have both candidates come within a hair of the grave in just weeks of each other - one by bullet, one by Covid.

How does Biden have Gaza baggage? Biden did everything in his power to get a cease fire, but Hamas wont agree to anything- they want the war to continue- it is a source of income for them.

Plotting… Yeesh.

If Biden drops out it will be because he was forced out. This is a betrayal of Biblical proportions.

I normally can’t stand him, but he’s right. The only way to attach any kind of legitimacy to this nightmare is an open vote at the convention. If Harris is made the nominee without an open vote and fair competition, not only will I not vote for her, I will renounce any affiliation I’ve ever had with the Democratic Party and I will find a left-wing third party to align myself with that isn’t afraid to stand up for its principles and through which I will be able to have a voice in politics on the local level.

All true, but Biden is taking heat for strongly supporting Israel in terms of arms being used to kill Gazans. That’s not sitting well with a lot of people (as evidenced by the recent college campus protests).

I agree, but many do not. They wanted BIden to take a much harder line with Israel.

“Betrayal” has got nothing to do with it. This isn’t a marriage. This is politics. You go with the best person, not the one whom feels they are owed something. Biden doesn’t have some right to be the nominee. He serves the party; the party doesn’t serve him.

In football, you start your best quarterback, not the one who claims he is entitled to the role because he’s the coach’s son or has been the starter before but is starting to suck now.

Prediction markets seem convinced… though the past couple of weeks have seen some pretty crazy up s and downs already.

He can’t be forced out. He can easily tell everyone to go pound sand and continue.

And who is betraying him? What betrayal? Especially one of “biblical proportions.”

The best person is Biden, and he has the right to be the nominee because he won that nomination by a vote of the people in all 50 states in accordance with the rules the Democratic Party has established for selecting its nominee.

He was in a no win situation. Some want him to stand behind Israel and others want him to rein Israel in. There was no way to avoid pissing off one faction or the other. He has probably pissed off both.

Many, many people do not agree with that including many in his own party.
