Reagan in 1981: Mr. President[addressing Carter], I want our fellow citizens to know how much you did to carry on this tradition. By your gracious cooperation in the transition process, you have shown a watching world that we are a united people pledged to maintaining a political system which guarantees individual liberty to a greater degree than any other, and I thank you and your people for all your help in maintaining the continuity which is the bulwark of our Republic.
Carter in 1977: For myself and for our Nation, I want to thank my predecessor for all he has done to heal our land.
Nixon did not in 1969. He addressed Johnson in the opening, but didn’t say anything about him. Just right into the speech.
I presume you all saw that Obama did.
Trump did, too, those his speech is INSANE. Seriously, read it sometime. It’s insane.
Trump in 2017: Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent.
I just love the optics of Clinton, Bush, Obama and Biden and wives all laying a wreath at Arlington cemetery together while the Trumps slink off back to Florida. It just underscores how there is an exclusive group of all past presidents that Trump will never be a part of. (I do not doubt that without Covid and the fact that they are in their 90s, the Carters would also have attended).
There will never be a picture of all the former presidents that includes him. I don’t think he will attend any future funerals of other presidents or will be invited. Not after how his presidency ended.
In the future, I hope it is referred to as “The Trump Interregnum”
Guess I want the anxiety to be over so badly that I mentally traveled to the 21st.
I doubt it will happen but I sincerely hope that at some point President-Elect Biden will mention something about malarkey!
Part of me hopes that some day his presidency will be vacated from the history books, kind of like how the NCAA vacated the USC football team’s 2005 season. Maybe the publishers can leave in a short blurb about how his actions are, point for point, what not to do as president. Sadly, I don’t think people really learn from their mistakes, and the same mistakes of the past will be repeated in the future over and over again.
But hey, one can dream.

What do I need to watch on TV and when? I only get PBS over the air. No other stations or cable. Only streaming. I can watch stuff on my computer.
