She gave answers, sure. They just weren’t to the question being asked.
I think she had an imaginary moderator, one who asked the questions she was prepared to answer, and she responded to her imaginary moderator and not to reality.
Was that an Israeli flag she was also wearing? If so…wow, just wow. We all LOVE Israel! I’m sure sitting in Wasilla, she was actively loving Israel.
I wish that Biden said that the reason he is on the ticket is because of his foreign policy experience, he was chosen because his strength is his candidates weakness. He did touch on the fact that Obama wanted him on his ticket to tell him no, to provide a foil for him.
I wish there was a nice way to say that she was there solely to pander to women, fundies and um…uh…guys that can visualize her giving blowjobs.
Absolutely. I think Palin did a good job of appearing confident. But there was nothing that convinced me that she had any clue what the heck was going on. Her points were lacking in substance and I didn’t hear any responses that convinced me she had a grasp on the issues and wasn’t just parroting what the McCain handlers had shoved down her throat.
Why? Because she never responded to any questions. She either restated exactly what she said the first time around, or COMPLETELY changed the subject. “We’re talking about the housing crisis.” “Ok, well, I’m going to talk about energy now.”
I feel like I need to watch this debate a second time. Maybe my head wasn’t in it completely, maybe it was the shaky start or Palin’s repeated evasions, but I don’t feel like I got enough from this, not at all like last week’s debate.
And, dammit, why didn’t I think to set up a BINGO game?
Good god, this women is getting credit for not being a complete fuckup. It reminds me of Chris Rocks bit about not getting credit because “I don’t beat my kids.”
Biden’s wife’s payment will be in heaven. Hey chicka, how about paying the bitch now?
I’m fairly sure it’s a “flag” indicating that she has a family member serving overseas. The number of stars on it is for how many people you have over there (I think… I’ve seen 2 star versions).
(1) I hope to the god I don’t believe in that we don’t ever hear anything about how Biden was mean to Palin. He was very courteous, very kind, very civil, very gentlemanly, indisputably so. The first pundit to even hint that he was being mean will have every single one of their future statements disregarded by me for all eternity.
(2) I thought Tina Fey’s impersonation was a little over the top. It turns out she was just psychic. (Seriously, winking? Are you kidding me? Once, I can forgive; you’re letting us in on a joke. But repeatedly? Seriously?)
(3) It was very obvious when she would dive back into rehearsed, memorized lines. She’d maybe take a stab at a question (or just flat out say that she wasn’t going to answer the question), then she’d look down momentarily, look back up, and recite her lines. It was very much like an actor saying, colloquially, “Tonight, I’ll be doing a scene from ‘Alaskan Hockey Moms,’” then taking a breath, and then starting the scene.
(4) Would it have killed you to include a little more specifics, Governor? Just a few factual statements?
(5) Man, leading up to the debate, it was all Palin Palin Palin. I think Biden took this as an opportunity to say, “Hey, you know what? I’m here too, and I’m not that bad at all.” The Forgotten Man in this campaign reasserted himself tonight, and he did it very, very well.
I honestly think Palin was pulling a page form the GWB handbook, she’d listen attentively to the question, then give a folksy answer that had little or nothing to do with the question. On the one hand, I find this annoying as hell, on the other hand, GWB used it to get elected twice, so it apparently is a strategy that works.
So I find myself wondering, will it work a third time or will the voting public find itself recalling the last two times it was used by the currently deeply unpopular president, and be turned off by it? I honestly don’t know.
My other impression was that both of performances were much better then their respective ticket partners. They both came across better then McCain/Obama in their debate.
How about, “There have been huge blunders in the war. There have been huge blunders throughout this administration, as there are with every administration.”
A mother and her daughter? At the same time? Now why would you do something like that? Would you enjoy a woman having sex with you and your father at the same time?
No, I bet it would disgust you, wouldn’t it? Think about that for a second.
It’s derogatory comments like those that elicit accusations of chauvinism and bigotry.
That said, if they both came to me with that offer, I would find it hard to refuse.
We had the same discussion here why watching the debate. On the one hand, Palin certainly beat expectations that she’d step all over herself. On the other hand, Biden has been more or less a non-entity during this election, so I feel this may be the first time that many voters have given him a thought. And I thought he acquitted himself very well, so he may have done his ticket more good then one who has been following the election closely might think.
