I don’t think each episode deserves it’s own thread but I am liking the new show Big Bang Theory!
I think that while exaggerating a bit it is funny how they have nailed alot of aspects of the Geek culture. This last episode struck home with me with the whole online gaming setup piece they started with. “I have the Sword of Azeroth!”
Anyone else watching? I haven’t seen any viewer numbers for the show yet, crossing my fingers for this one.
I haven’t seen the latest episode but I love this show. I really hope it stays on for the whole season even if it gets moved to Sunday nights at 2 AM. I’ll just DVR it.
I really like the characters of the four friends. Each is a different type of geek.
I was expecting much less. So far I do like it. I know people who might have some of the same arguments as these guys. They are a little over the top, but not too much based on people I know.
I like it quite a lot. I really like that they go to great lengths to get the science right - it makes it funnier. And the tall sidekick guy is a hoot, and steals the show.
I also like that they are slowly changing the brain-dead blonde stereotype into someone who may not be ‘book smart’, but has more common sense than the others. While they’re off fanwanking about how to optimize her TV stand and spotting supposed flaws in the design, she just goes ahead and builds the damned thing. “It’s really not that hard, guys. See? You just follow the instructions.”
BTW, it’s doing quite well in the ratings, finishing ahead of ‘Chuck’ (which is also holding its own). So unless the audience declines dramatically, expect it to hang around. These kinds of comedies are cheap to make, and coming in second or third in its timeslot (which it’s done every week) is a big win for a show like that.
I enjoyed last night’s episode. The tall sidekick guy is really stealing the show. He is grovelling to the dept. head to get his job back.
“I’m sorry I called you an idiot.”
“It was wrong of me to point that out”
They had on the person who played Rossanne’s sister. I wonder if they are planning to have a cameo from everyone from that cast?
The glow in the dark nightlight goldfish at the end was cool.
Also, while I’m at it I enjoyed the new episode of Chuck last night. They are working a fair bit on character development which will be required to sustain interest in this type of show. Although this is over the top fantasy, I don’t mind as long as they are not deliberately stupid. The Baldwin spy allowed himself to be seduced and tied up by the same opposing spy that apparantly had done the exact same thing to him before. Pretty lame.
I like the show. I get the smart jokes and the hopeless nerd jokes. My wife likes the show, she’s married to a geek. But why, oh why does everything good have to be on Monday night?
Best line so far, from last week:
Penny: So what’s new in the world of Physics?
Leonard (after a brief pause): Nothing!
His ‘duh’ delivery was perfect.
I only watched part of it last night and had to turn away from the semi-manic delivery and the horrid laugh track. I want to like the geeks, I really do!
That appears to be Sheldon’s character, and that episode focused on him. The laugh track, though, is certainly a bad idea, and it’s filmed with a live audience anyway.
I really hope this show keeps going because I find it hard to find a sit-com I can watch with my wife. That 70’s Show reruns are running out.
