ummm…i don’t normally watch tv or this show on the regular, but I happened upon it looking for something do do while i was eating.
Now some woman named Erica got nominated to be kicked out of the house by this Korean dude name Jee. I guess anyone who gets put up to be kicked out is a lil emotional, but this to me was inexcusable.
After she finds out she’s being nominated, she goes outside where there is another member of the household. She starts to vent, but the FIRST thing out of her mouth was “Fuckin Korean” or something to that effect. Then she says something about “Straight off the boat fucking immigrant”.
Three things shocked me: first, the guy that was outside with her did nothing but laugh along with her which encouraged her to go for the 2nd comment. secondly, the network did nothing to reprimand her, ie get big brother over the house speaker and tell her a lil sumthin’ like they did to dude last week when he started throwing around furniture. Thirdly, when Jee came out, she didn’t even convey her anger to him. she resumed her ‘role’ in the game.
I realize that this woman was angry, but it sadly reinforces a point that was brought up repeatedly in a thread i started a couple of weeks back about what **some ** white people say in anger about other people, specifically people of other races.
No one DARE tell me that those comments were not racist.
No excuses here. She could have easily just called him a fucking asshole and be done with it. But she decided to take the race route.
Its very sad to think that she is probably the norm. But, once again, it makes me wonder what I would prefer? The to face to face racism or smile in your face/insult you behind your back kind.
It sucks, because I liked Erika up until tonight. Most of these people are such zeros anyway that she seemed to stick out. Well, I guess I was wrong.
She’s kind of emerging as a fan favorite (mostly because she hasn’t been as bitchy, scary, or disgusting [up until tonight, that is] as the others), and I’ve been visiting various boards that I go to, and NO ONE except Television Without Pity is calling her on this, which is doubly sad.
I’ve been reading the live feed recaps, and I’ve been surprised at all of the “faggots” that have been tossed around by people like Alison, like it’s nothing. Some recappers have even taken to calling Nathan “Oklahomo,” which really chafes me.
I was going to buy the live feeds tonight, to see what happens after the fallout from tomorrow’s vote, but I just couldn’t. I feel weird about spending money to watch these people say horrible things.
Wow, that’s disgusting. But I have no problem with her venting privately and then resuming the game publicly. That’s how it’s done in there.
Regarding the racism, sometimes you say in anger what you’d never say when composed. But it sure does reveal what you really think but are normally afraid to say. Too bad for her.
My problem with Jee is that he’s just plain BORING!
It only surprises me that people expect any better from the moronic wankers that “star” in these shows. Every single one of them is a fucking idiot; that’s why they were chosen.
And, no i will tolerate no accusations that i am overgeneralizing.
The network RARELY steps in to tell the houseguests what to do. They will tell the houseguests things about contests, and they did actually tell the houseguests what happened on September 11. But, they aren’t going to say anything about people saying things that aren’t PC.
I was a bit shocked that she said such things, but I didn’t like her from the beginning. I’ll be happy to see her go.
The only reason they said something to Scott is because he was being violent. That is against the rules, being insulting isn’t.
This is interesting to me, because I just saw the show for the first time tonight as well. I just got a new job and my hours are drastically different now, so the last two days I have just sacked out on the couch and watched some television.
Actually, I missed the Korean slurs, but I wouldn’t have known which person said them anyway. All those people seem exactly alike, except for the old guy. I couldn’t watch the show but in little pieces while flipping around, because mhendo is absolutely right, they all seem to be complete idiots.
The other show I watched was Last Comic Standing. I had already seen another episode and a half before and I really thought this was kind of interesting. HOWEVER, when they got to the big showdown between Dat and this Geoff guy, I was completely appalled. This Geoff person’s whole routine was completely sexist with a bit of homophobia thrown in to boot, and more importantly not funny. Yet people seemed to think it was a toss up between the two. I couldn’t believe that people were laughing at these kinds of jokes, I thought we were past comedians like that. Shows you what I know.
Cutting, forking, chewing, swallowing — these and similar things can be done while eating.

You might not have understood that they are playing a game for the purpose of winning half-a-million dollars. Role-playing game-play of this nature requires a certain amount of diplomatic and political skill. It is a tactical error to alienate someone who might someday hold your future in her hands.

vivian, I did not know that Erica had reacted this way (and I watched the show). Good to know since I liked her the best. Now I hate them all. Especially Jee. Not only is he boring, but he is a piss-poor player. I can’t wait for his inevitable eviction. Dumbass.
I’m surprised they even aired it, though. Usually they screen out racist comments. For instance, I think it was Evil Wil from the second BB that regularly referred to Julie Chen as slats. And I will never forget Eddie–the winner of BB1–who once entertained everyone except for the black houseguest with his racist jokes.
Allison (the big nose chick on the current show) said something even worse about Jee: she commented that she can’t stand looking at his “chink” eyes any longer. Since Allison wasn’t nominated, I don’t know where the hateration stems from.
The wonderful (can’t believe I said that) thing about BB is the live feeds*. If it weren’t for the feeds, we wouldn’t know how ridiculously sick these individuals were. But as for censoring these people? Nah. Maybe if they stopped editing so much from the live feeds the actual television show wouldn’t suck so much.
Why do people like throwing around crazy-ass labels like this one? Don’t they know how idiotic it makes them look? And yet they continue to do so! It really blows my mind.
Libertarian, you may wear your politics on your sleeve but most people do not. You have no idea if vivian is a liberal or conservative, let alone if she’s an extremist anything. Regardless, liberal wouldn’t be the first thing to spring to mind after reading the OP. It’s not generally liberals who jump on the censorship bandwagon.

I’ve often wondered what would be a good way to get rid of reality TV shows. And Court TV shows. And Gerry Springer style TV shows. While And PoP-Star shows. it might not pass Supreme Court muster, here’s the idea:

Set up a TV show on CNN of a SEAL team that is, for 12 months, specifically exempt from all laws of the Constitution. Then, on a weekly basis, this team would burst through the soundstage of a Reality TV show at random and would kill everyone inside the building. Contestants, agents, actors, directors, producers, gaffers, BestBoys, audience members…Everybody. You know, Dynasty-style.And one of the team members would film this for broadcast on CNN under the title" The Dead-Wood Squad: week 1" etc.
No one would be allowed to prosecute or sue and news coverage of any funerals would be limited to 5 seconds per week per network. By the end of their term of contract (one year only, not extendable) they should have wiped out 50 of the worst shows on TV and instilled a healthy fear into the scumbags that would run them or be contestants in them. <sarcastic> <put away the Uzi, Jethro>

when did I become a extremist liberal??? I happen to be a person of colour who thinks that this should not have aired without some sort of reprimand from Big Brother.
But hey, if this show is about showing peoples true colours when in confined places, then its great. Its just something I wouldn’t expect to see on tv.
I was shocked by it, too. Erika hasn’t really shown any other signs of racism that were broadcast (I haven’t even been reading live feed updates, let alone the live feeds…this bunch is so insipid it seems like a waste of time). It will be mentioned in my show update…I specifically made notes when I heard her say it.
