Big Brother morality.

In England there is a show called Big Brother. The premise of the show is this:

10 ordinary people have been chosen to spend 10 weeks in in a house together with no contact with the outside world for the duration of the 10 weeks. Every week two people are nominated by the housemates (who each have two votes) to be evicted from the house. The buck is then passed to the shows viewers and they vote for one of the two niminees to be evicted. One by one the amount of house guests is whittled down until there is only one person remaining. This person then wins 70, 000 pounds.

Oh I almost forgot, throughout the 10 weeks every thing that the houseguests do is filmed by cameras and everything they do is broadcast on the internet, the edited highlights are shown several times a week.

My question is, “Do you think that it is immoral to judge someone just by what you see of them on the television in rather odd circumstances and vote for them to be evicted?”

I mean no-one (friends and family excepted) knows these people for who they really are but thousands of people make rash and harsh judgements abot them and vote for them to be evicted and thus playing a part in robbing them of 70, 000 pounds. Do you think that this is immoral?

No, it’s not immoral (IMHO).

They signed up knowing what they were getting in to. The winner gets £70,000. It’s just a gameshow. Is it good television? Different question. Is the premise moral? If the participants are happy to agree, I don’t see why not.

I thought this thread was going to be about Nick
As to the OP , what mattk said.

Ok, that was over faster than I thought. New question, is “Nick the biggest arsehole on TV or what?” I think that he must be in the running for arsehole of the year. I know this clashes with what I said about judging contestants but he IS an arsehole!!!

I don’t really have a problem with him . I actually think his antics are quite funny .

Yes , he’s got an agenda but I think I would aswell . It is a t.v. show after all . It’s not as if they have willing joined a commune(sp?) and are working towards a common goal.

At the end of the day it’s just another game show with a lot of soap opera thrown in for good measure . Nick is playing a game and hopes to win £70,000 . More power to him .** ***

***** All of the above is only in context of the Big Brother house . If IRL Nick carries on like this he is indeed an asshole .

Immoral? neither moral/immoral its a tv game show

boring? yep. it’s a tv game show.

Well, some how I got sucked into watching the American version of this show. Don’t ask, I don’t know why. I don’t watch a lot of TV but I just got interested in this. Actually, I think it has a lot to do with Josh and Eddie running around without their shirts on…

Anyway, I don’t think there is anything immoral about judging them. That’s what they signed up for. Also, I watch but I don’t vote. I’m not giving them a dollar just to tell them who I think should be kicked out.
