Anybody have any idea of why he was arested in 1977? Our boy Bill?
According to the Wikipedia caption on the same photo:
Searching on the terms bill, gates, and arrest, some web pages say that he was arrested for running a stop sign and driving without a license.
Some kind of joke involving going to START in order to STOP should be happening here about now.

The caption says he was arrested in 1975 for speeding and driving without a license. But the famous mugshot was taken in 1977. What were the charges then?

I thought the 1977 charge was drunk driving. Not falling-down-drunk, but like, beer on his breath when pulled over. I think, in 1977, they didn’t have separate charges for Driving Under the Influence and Driving While Intoxicated, so what would today be a DUI was probably filed under “moving violation.” I could be wrong, of course.
A 1998 newspaper story says that Gates was arrested in 1977 for running a stop sign and driving without a license. He also was arrested in Calif. in 1989 for suspicion of drunken driving, which charge was later reduced. To what, I don’t know.
Gates has always been before his time. In 1977, he dressed like a current-day indie hipster.
Possibly public intoxication? It happens here on rare occassion if the DA’s case is kind of bad.
