Bills to release TO

As long as **somebody **signs him. How else is he going to feed his family?

Matt Hasselbeck has tread? Who knew? I think he’s done and everyone knows it.

Of course, Carson Palmer’s performance down the stretch last season wasn’t exactly stellar either, but he may have reasons beyond his control (no TE, no deep threat/reliable WR other than Chad, poor offensive line play)…but there were certainly times I saw last season where he DID have all those things and just looked tentative, or flat-out missed open wideouts, too.

Jury’s out on Carson, but I think Hasselbeck is done.

I just thought you might find it interesting that this is how far I had to read before I had the slightest idea of what you are discussing.

At OchoCinco I though it must be some online game; could Bills mean Gates? Did he kick some legendary player off of some MS gameworld I’m unfamiliar with?

At Browns I thought maybe Brown University? A slight ping there, I began to think terrestrially, but I wasn’t getting it yet.

At team, I thought, oh, maybe it’s about Rugby? Or polo perhaps? Then, finally,

Ahhhhh! Steelers! Yes, I’ve seen them . . .

Heh, I’m inclined to agree on Hasselbeck and the jury is out on Palmer. I like both guys as a fan so I’d like to stay optimistic. But, I think it’s pretty clear that the Seahawks will be giving Hasselbeck another shot to reclaim his former glory this year while they groom a replacement from the draft. With Carroll anything is possible but the most logical choice is to trot him out there one last time and giving him another target like TO might give him a chance to stay upright and might help make something of their investment with Housh. I don’t think TO wants to go where there’s another young QB controversy and with Hasselbeck you at least know what you’re getting.

I would be open to him coming to the Bears on a one year deal with a club option for another one… First its hard to access where he exactly is because his qb’s last year sucked ass. Funny when he was in Buffalo you never heard a whole lot did you…
As for Chicago we have a number 4 (bennett) a rookie (knox) and Hester who hasn’t proven to be a number one. Also that young dude who came on… Face it… Martz… Lovie… Cutler… Marinelli… Angleo… and TO are all at the end of their ropes… all of them need a reclamation season. I can fully see them working together to get it done… since all except for cutler would be working on their resumes if not…

 Well I didn’t *mean *to be exclusive - but this is one of those times that if you watched the NFL at all you probably knew straight off what I was talking about.

The Bills are a team from New York - the Buffalo Bills.

OchoCinco was born Chad Johnson. His NFL jersey number is 85 and he referred to himself as Ocho Cinco. He wanted that on his jersey instead of Johnson, but the NFL ruled that this was not allowed. He then legally changed his name to Chad Ochocinco, so that they would be forced to put it on his jersey. He is a good athlete - but a big enough character that people love him or hate him. For a while you could not hear about the NFL without hearing about him. He is rumored to be changing his name again to the Japanese words for eight and five, but that may or may not be true.

TO is Terrell Owens - he too is a good athlete, but a big enough character that he is often hated. He seems to disrupt every team he is on. A few years ago he was on a Philadelphia team and there was a big falling out between him and his QB. Eventually he was benched and traded. Like Chad, for a while you couldn’t hear about the NFL without hearing about him.

So if you followed the sport at all, you would almost be sure to know what I was on about straight off.

Hamilton would be a good fit. They need a more balanced attack.

Hmm… Owens on the Eagles… I have a feeling that isn’t going to happen but I can’t quite explain why…

He got $6.5 million from the Bills last year, so I don’t think he’ll be taking the veteran minimum this year  And I suspect the Pats are feeling pretty good about Julian Edelman filling in for Welker until he’s back to top form. fingers crossed

Most of it will have to do with whether or not teams think he has the ability to contribute. I think - as it was with Randy Moss - the “bad behavior” stuff is wildly overblown. I might have missed it, but I can’t remember hearing him cause a single problem this past year in Buffalo. If he goes to a good team with a good quarterback - New England would actually be a good fit, given the injury to Welker, because Owens would become a potentially lethal slot receiver - he’ll be fine.

The question, really, is how good is he? It’s hard to tell. His numbers last year were not good at all, but they were much better than the numbers of Lee Evans, who I consider to be a very good receiver. He played for a bad offensive team with two below-average quarterbacks and unimaginative offensive coaches, and he led the team in receptions, yards, and yards per reception (all by healthy margins).

I don’t think he’s an elite receiver, but I’m not sure he’s ever been. As a second or even third target in a really good offense, he’d be a weapon. If he’s willing to sign for a modest price tag, he’d be very useful.

The Giants don’t have a pressing need at receiver, and do have pressing needs elsewhere, so no, I’d prefer they didn’t sign him. But the team that does won’t be scuttling their season or anything, and if it’s the right team, they could reap very substantial benefits.

Okay, I lied. I’ll be a Redskins fan for as long as I follow the NFL, despite what the Danny has and is doing to them (here’s hoping he wasn’t fooling when he said that Shanahan and Allen will be running the team this year). I’d still probably egg his house, though.

Really don’t see him going to the Saints. We’re loaded for bear at WR with Colston, Henderson (who took giant leaps forward in development last year), Meachem (also much improved), Moore, and I think somebody else whose name escapes me at the moment. Barring injury or a loss to free agency, we’ll be focusing attention elsewhere.

If TO was never an elite receiver, then the only elite receivers that have ever played are Jerry Rice and Marvin Harrison.

TO is currently fifth on the NFL leader list (all time) in TD’s with 147.
He is sixth on the NFL all time receptions list with 1,006.
Owens averaged 14.9 YPC for his entire career.

I’ll stop there, but I think its a bit foolish to question his elite status. He’s one of the best ever to play stats-wise. He’s also a douche.
