I’m not quite pissed off at either of these gentlemen (though lissener might be a lady, for all I know) to start throwing about vile language. But I am annoyed enough to hand the icy mitten to both of them.
First, Lissener gets all huffy because the John Waters thread in GQ gets off the topic and we all start chatting in a friendly way about the Dreamlanders—just like every goddam thread on this board GETS OFF-TOPIC. Deal with it.
Then, just when liss starts insulting me, Manny shuts down the thread so I don’t even get to respond! So this is my ladylike, not very flaming retort to both of you: bite me. Gently. Just don’t leave marks.
As a gentleman, I prefer to call it “nibbling,” ma’am. And of course I’d never leave a mark, at least not where one could see it. No scandals on my account, thank you.
OK. Why did I close the thread? Well, generally speaking we will often close a thread if the OP requests it. Specifically in this case I closed it because lissener had picked “e-mail notification” as an option when s/he started the topic. That means that each and every time somebody posts to the thread, lissener got a little love note from the SDMB email robot.
Having made the same mistake once before, I understand that it gets very annoying after a time. Especially when the board has the problem it had this afternoon, which tends to lead to double, triple and even quadruple posts of the same message. (n.b., lissener quadruple posted in that very thread, thus inadvertently emailing him/herself four times.) So I decided to give the new person a break and close the thread. I suspect s/he will know next time whether to check “email notification.”
Closing a thread of course by no means has to cause the discussion to end. One can open a new thread, as you have done here.
BTW, I’m a little bit insulted, Pit denizens. Gaudere got a Pit thread on her very first day of being a moderator, and that was on a weekend when board traffic is lower. It took me the better part of a month.
Don’t go being offended by these Pitizens, Manny. Gaudere got her thread from one of her own GD supporters, Libertarian.
If you can’t get any of your effete GQ readers to flame you on principle, it is hardly the responsibility of some local Pitizen to come up with the requisite flames.
