I just think any legitimate thread deserves to live out it’s life. As long as it’s not illegal.
Why did samclem close them? Normally a mod gives a reason when they lock a thread… goes to see

Is it just my imagination, or are there a lot more thread closings than usual lately? I certainly don’t remember seeing so many closings for the reason of the thread having evolved (or degenerated) into a string of jokes.
You know…I’ve often wondered about that.

I guess samclem thought the threads were moot now that the subject had been exhausted. I mean, GQ is for questions, MPSIMS is for joke threads and such.

The board’s evolving slowly, as such things do. When I first joined, it wasn’t any big deal to make joke posts to threads in GQ or GD. Now, it’s a big deal. As it should be! You bet!

on a practical basis, there’s only so much space per page for threads. IIRC , GQ tends to go pretty fast, that is threads tend to fall off the first page pretty quickly. if there’s a GQ thread wherein the OP has been answered but folks keep posting jokes to it, that would tend to keep that thread on the top of the heap, on the first page, while other threads where the OP **hadn’t ** been answered yet would continue to drop off.
and since GQ is for, well, GQ, it would seem contraindicated to let a question fall to the bottom of the heap so folks can talk about what kind of pie they’d bring when they come back and all.
just a guess, ya know.
