Fair enough, but it’s not only GQ. It’s here in the Pit as well. I’m thinking especially of the “Crappy Parents” thread, which somehow turned into a Monty Python quotefest (admittedly tiresome; I wouldn’t have minded so much if TVeblen had only closed the thread by quoting the Graham Chapman “Stop, stop, this has gotten entirely too silly” character) and the Bosda pitting. Those threads were very silly; I’m just not convinced that aimless joking and badinage is intrinsically less worthy than ranting and flaming.

don’t know that anyone has made that claim. I do know, however - for example, that Lynn is rather adament about “No joke threads in the PIT”. I really would suggest that you email a moderator and ask, but the drift I’m hearing here is “threads should be placed in the proper forum”.
Well, they weren’t “joke threads” per se–I think the OPs were sincere pittings, but the threads drifted/were hijacked into joking. And what I meant above was that if the hostility had been maintained instead, the threads would presumably not have been locked. It’s not a fight I have a dog in, anyway; and it’s certainly nothing I’d want to dispute with the mods.

Thread was full of posts not useful to the OP, and were political in nature. I’m tired of that crap in GQ.
OP was nicely answered within 45 minutes of the thread being posted. I don’t believe a poster complained about this. I even had at least two more jokes that I could have contributed to the thread, both dy-no-mite references to “69.” But just how long could I let this go? That’s why we have other forums.
That’s how/why I closed three GQ threads in 28 minutes.
