Bitter cold!

Think we broke a daily record for cold overnight. -27, without the wind chill!

Too cold for any exposed skin, so bundling up is the order of the day!

On the up side, the sky is clear for once, and the sun is shining brightly. Almost blinding with all the snow! There is so much snow in the back yard that the raised bed is not visible in any way, not even a bump in the snow.

I quite enjoy looking out from my upstairs window onto a blanket of freshly fallen snow, checking out the foot prints of animals, as they appear over time. House cats, squirrels mostly, but sometimes other things too. But, since this cold snap began two weeks ago, we’ve had plenty of snow, but the backyard remains without trace of wandering animals. :frowning:

Today, over the course of four hours, the temps rose from 11 to 30.

Tomorrow, it could get as high as 50!

I have fucking had it with this fucking cold. I do not talk about it anymore.

I’m sick of putting on 192 items of clothing every time I go out. Now, when I dress to go out, over my socks, pants and Tshirt, I put a hat, hoodie, hooded jacket, and boots.

It’s so cold here that last week I actually got brain freeze just from breathing and walking around outside.

It hit 30 yesterday and I got my cash washed! Whew. Now it is back down to 10.

It’s only 27F here, but we had enough of an ice storm last night (and a sufficient incapacity for dealing with it) that my two weekend guests had to turn back when they tried to go home to Oklahoma. They’ll probably try again this afternoon, once the road crews have the bridges sanded.

Money laundering in NH!

Anyhoo, I can actually tell what color my car is now (not green).

After a handful of days above freezing, temps once again plunge.

Weatherbug forecasts tonight’s local low at 0…the coldest yet.

Lucky. We only got a single day above freezing :frowning:

A few nights ago, we reached -14F (-25.5C), with wind chills of -30F (-34.4C). And the snow just keeps piling up (Shouldn’t lake effect be over, now that the lake’s frozen?). And the kitchen drain pipe has been frozen for a week.

-11F when I woke up. I’d love to use this as an excuse to go back to bed (which has a sweet mattress pad warmer on it), but no go.

-11F is really a bit chilly.

I can’t remember when it was last above freezing. So far, this month, we’ve broken 11 daily low temp records!

But we are being assured, later this week the daily high will rise to -18 C. And we’re happy to hear it!

-10 here in New Hampshire, and the sun has been up for a hour. The dogs keep lifting their feet up while they look for a place to pee.

When I was livin’ in Alaska … Anchorage, Spenard neighborhood – the RIME on the inside of my bathroom window was at least a quarter of an inch thick.

It’s pretty toasty here in DownEast, Maine. By comparison.

It’s coming down to the wire for the last few days if this February will be the coldest month Detroit has ever had. It’s pretty much guaranteed that it will be the coldest February in 150 years.
I think we’ve had about 6 hours total above freezing this month.

P.S. By the way can someone come by and kick me in the ass if I haven’t gotten my attic insulation upgraded by next October?

Meanwhile we’ve been having record-breaking heat on the West Coast. It was 80F in Oakland on Feb. 15.

Here in Buffalo the radio just said it’s official. The coldest February on record. It never once got above freezing.

Had issues with our diesel shop truck. Even with fuel stabilizer and the block heater plugged in and blankets over the engine it wouldn’t start. The fuel is gelling. We managed to drag/push it into the shop. With kerosene heaters it finally started at 8 pm and we could go home. It was loaded with parts to be delivered. My boss let it run all night in his driveway so he could make the delivery.

Hopefully this Tuesday won’t be a repeat.

Conversation I had waiting in the guy in the discount store where I’m a cashier:

Guy: This would cost me a lot more in Texas.
Me: Yeah, and I bet you don’t get temps like this is Texas.
Guy: Right now we’re having this cold spell. It’s like 50 there.
(Slight pause, then I asked ) What’s fifty?

We should know in a couple of days if New Hampshire beats the coldest February record set back during the 1860s or if this month will “just” be the second coldest since they began keeping track of the data.
