Bitter cold!

That’s where my wife’s from, originally. Rest assured she’s glad that she’s not there right now!

It’s nice and warm in the Pacific Northwest. Right now it’s about 48º, and low- to mid-50s are expected for the next ten days. I heard on the radio that Spring flowers are blooming, and the bears may emerge from hibernation a month early.

Per the hourly forecast we should get above zero around 1 pm tomorrow… warming all the way up to 2 before dropping back to zero and below by 6 pm.

My father said it got to -20 in Lexington KY. I don’t think it’s done that since '77. I suggested a vacation out here—our lows in Albuquerque are around freezing and our highs in the 60’s and yes, flowers are blooming.

-14 F today on my drive in to work.

I hate it when my earwax freezes.

Dear Sir or Madam in charge of the weather,

It appears there has been a conversion error. When putting the temperature on the schedule for this week the numbers appear to be in the neighborhood of zero plus or minus. This is a common mistake when one is reading the C side of the card, rather than the F side. Although this is a common error, around here we use the F side. Please update your weather.exe program forthwith to the customary 30-35 degrees our historic contract with you clearly states.

I wish. Alberta+Siberia=Alberia. Sorry if my portmanteau caused confusion…

Do wood chippers still run in those extreme conditions?

10 below (F) this morning.

It was -40 C with the windchill on the weekend.

Tonight, it will be -35 C.

Southern Ontario is on an “extreme cold” weather alert.

I just took our garbage and recycling to the local convenience center. Several patches of road along the way were snow-covered because of wind-blown drifting. Windchill is about 2°F, which isn’t as bad as some places, but it’s still COLD!!! It hurt my face when I had to leave the warmth of the truck cab.

Three days from now, it’s forecast to be 50°. In the meantime, it’s going to stay too damned cold!

I am glad we replaced our windows a few years back. The old double-hung + aluminum storm windows let lots of heat out. The replacement vinyl with insulated triple panes definitely make a difference. I expect it helps that we keep the 2 guest bedrooms closed - mostly to keep the cats out, but it’s that much less we have to heat.

C’mon spring!!!

I was in NYC on Monday afternoon. 0F, sunny, but the wind was howling off the Sound. Not bad for 10 minutes outside, but it would have gotten real old real quick after that.

There was significant saltwater ice accumulated along the shoreline in the protected bays. And I saw some nutcases sailing a large sailboat across the outer harbor south of Staten Island. The Fools; the Mad Fools!!

I won’t mention what it was like yesterday at home.

Today’s HIGH was 4 degrees F.

I got my best out of the back of the closet. Big, knee-length down coat with a fur-rimmed hood. Very snug. One of the best gifts the spouse ever gave me. It’s like wearing a big, warm hug.

Could have used better gloves, though.

Heh. It was -47 here with the wild chill the other night. :frowning:

It’s been 20 degrees below average 3 days this week and probably will go another. One regional airport set an all-time low record Sunday and another is expected to do so tomorrow.

Did I mention we have short-furred, weather-wimp dogs?

Far be it from me to brag, but (ahem) it was a balmy 58 F in southwest Idaho today, I am charging the battery on the tractor, preparatory to plowing my garden. We had about a week of -0 F 'way back in November (unusual for this region) and the rest of the winter has been surprisingly moderate. Downside is the mountain snowpack is a bit short…we’re probably looking at a moderate drought next summer, but not as bad as parts of CA and the southwest are facing.

Having suffered through a few New England winters myself, you downeasters have all my sympathy.

It’s 3 F in my DC suburb at the moment, but with another six hours until the sun starts to come up, we’re probably headed below zero. For the first time ever, our school district is opening 2 hours late simply because it’s really cold. So at least I get to sleep in a bit before work.

It’s 6 degrees F in NYC, with a wind chill of -10. I was talking to my fellow menopausal friend earlier and we were laughing about not having hot flashes when we really could use them (sorry if that’s TMI).

It’s starting to warm up this morning. 19 degrees, wind chill only 12. If it keeps this up, I’ll have to put on shorts by lunch time.

Definitely not as bad as some of you, but it’s 0F and -15 with the windchill. Cold enough for me!
