Bizarro World Ice Cream Truck…A Herald of Spring MMP

One of these things is not like the other…

Good. you have been missed!

We had no winter through most of February. It’s making up for lost time, now – we’re supposed to get yet another rain storm tonight.
I am not complaining, hooboy do we need the rain!!!

Moonie, Kai – owwww…!

Wasn’t around end of last week, so Happy Belated Birthday, SnowBunny from me, too.

**Swampy **-- we had ice-cream trucks when I was growing up; they seem to be an extinct species in this part of the world, though – I don’t think my kids would recognize it if they heard fur Elise in way off-key squeaky monotone wafting in through the window…

Not at this point. The ash is blowing NW of Kodiak, towards the valley*. That could change at any time. Right now Kodiak is sitting under an enormous low pressure, and as long as that is swirling above us we should be okay. In the recent past we have gotten fairly heavy fall and it messes things up, but we are old pro’s at dealing with it. Although if one cared to Google Kodiak volcano ash deposits, it is rather interesting. One can dig a hole in the ground and run into very large ash deposits.

*The Matanuska-Susitna Valley, our agricultural area for the state, home of the Embarrassing Palin Clan.

I grew up across the street from a park… so all through my formative years, warm weather meant a Mr Softee truck parked right across from our house, blaring the same jingle over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (and since we had no A/C in the house, closing the windows to muffle the sound meant slowly suffocating to death in the heat). I still get a little twitchy when I hear this jingle.

So consider yourself lucky, swampus. (though I guess I should consider myself lucky that I didn’t end up with tarra’s “Hello” truck)

Moonie, all I have to say is owowowowowowowowowowow. OW. Hope it heals up quick.

rigs, lucky you… my scylla won’t bloom for another couple of weeks, at the very least. :frowning:

We has teh pine pollen and we has the oak fluff but no sign of the ice cream truck yet. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time. What we DO have this morning is rain. Hallelujah! We’ve been burning up so this is quite welcome.

Let see now…

moonie,

snowbunny, happy belated birfday to you!

kai, sorry about your wrist. Hope it feels better soon. As for the volcano, there sure seems to be lots going on in the Pacific plate.

bobbio, with all these puppies and kittehs, you must have stock in Febreeze!

I didn’t do much this weekend except pick up the computer which seems to be fixed…for now. Today is day seven on my beginning dosage of synthroid. I have one more week at the lower dosage before I pick it up a notch by doubling the dose. I’m not noticing an enormous improvement yet but I think my head feels a tad less like it is squoze in a vice. Muscles are still very sore and the fatigue hasn’t let up. Please, Og, let it be soon.

I don’t got much else.

Tupug

Hey Lunch!!!

Howdy!

We have -3 weather to celebrate spring, and I am sick. Very sick. Headaches, chills, fever, swollen tonsils. Muppet, I sincerely hope I didn’t give this to you. It’s no fun.

My parents took the little one for the morning, and I’m going to go lie down again.

Feel better,** LiLi**-

check your CD drive for chicken soup…

Happy belated birthday, snowbunny! Hope it was fun.

Feel better soon, LiLi!

 moonie!

No outdoor bulbs here for probably another month. They’re not even poking out of the ground yet. But I have some inside that are about ready to bloom that someone gave me plus a whole big pot of Dutch iris that I planted that are just starting to grow. So in a couple weeks those should be blooming.

At least the snow has melted and the lakes are starting to thaw. The geese, ducks, robins, and blackbirds are back. The robins are already singing at 4:30 a.m. even though the sun doesn’t rise until after 7. Good grief.

Training new guy continues at work so I may be scarce today. But this is a good thing so I’m not complaining!

LiLi, that really blows! Hope you feel better soon… I’m okay this morning aside from a violent case of the Don Juannas, so hopefully I dodged a bullet (then again, Gnat did shove his entire hand in my mouth a few times, so all bets are off).

That’s true. He liked your teeth, and wanted to add them to his collection.

Of course, he doesn’t seem to be sick, so fingers crossed.

moonie, I am now going to pretend I didn’t read that.

OK, full story for the two who asked:

I have both of my nipples pierced - nothing fancy, just a straight horizontal stud through each. I had them done about a month ago, and over the weekend (Saturday) I replaced the 14G studs I had been using with a pair of 10G studs, which look quite nice and which are what I plan to stay with; my girlfriend thinks they’re sexy too so all was well.

Now, yesterday was the last day of Spring Break, meaning the two of us would both be packing up and heading back to campus; having not seen each other for ten days, we made plans to get together as soon as we were both back at school and unpacked. Fast-foreward to Sunday afternoon and we’re laying in bed together (pants and underwear still on and fastened, before anyone gets the wrong idea) just snuggling and generally be adorable. Again, all was well.

As we’re laying there, she starts running her hands over my chest, and discovers that because i’t just gauged up my piercings, my nipples are VERY sensitive to the touch (in a good way) and with just a light touch she can get me to make all sorts of interesting noises… among other reactions. One thing leads to another, and she starts getting a little rougher, and I’m THOROUGHLY enjoying myself and she’s having way too much fun making me writhe and moan, and in a moment of inspiration, she takes hold of the piercing in my right nipple and starts to twist it very gently. This, it turns out, feels VERY good, a fact which I made abundantly clear without ever explicitly stating so, and so naturally she decides to twist it a little farther, past the 90-degree mark, when suddenly there is a faint “pop”.

Suddenly all is not well.

The skin on the tip of the nipple had been stretched too far by the torsion, and had torn; the bar pulled completely out. There was a moment of absolute silence, during which I’m pretty sure we both looked exactly like this:

Interestingly, it didn’t hurt at all. In fact, when it tore, it wasn’t so much that I felt it; rather, I felt the sudden absence of the sensations that had been present as a result of having the piercing in and twisted. It didn’t bleed much, either, thankfully; all in all a far less severe injury than the phrase “ripped nipple” would lead you to believe.

After the obligatory OSHI- moment, we got out of bed to deal with the situation. We mopped up the few drops of blood with a tissue and rinsed the wound with hydrogen peroxide to prevent infection; I didn’t want it to heal completely cuz then the piercing would have to be redone, so I grabbed a safety pin (much narrower than the original piercing), rinsed it in rubbing alcohol, and set it into the hole so the injury would heal around it. Then we put a big glob of Neosporin antibiotic ointment onto a big ol’ bandage and stuck it in place. All in all, the situation wasn’t too bad; awkward, yes, and a bit embarrassing, but quickly and easily dealt with and after I got patched up we went right back to cuddling. Sheepish grins were exchanged and all was once again well.

As of this morning, when I changed the dressing after taking a shower, the tear has already closed over at the surface. It’s going to take a few days to heal, but oh well; I’ll get the piercing back in eventually.

The end :stuck_out_tongue:

Moonie, I used to have my left earlobe pierced. Until I ripped the stud out pulling off my SCBA mask at a fire school…

Mine was a “yee-ouch!” moment. I can only faintly imagine what yours was like.

I think I may be sick reading that.

Am off to read about puppies and unicorns and Osmond type love…

It turned cold and rainy here today, ruining my plans for stripping the porch swing and starting to refinish it. I need to get this done, folks. Could Mother Nature please cooperate…

Ripped out piercings are no fun at all, but let me put on my Grandmotherly Advice Hat…

You really should have waited a couple more months later for the original 14 ga piercings to heal and firm up, and for most guys’ nipples, 10 is a bit big. Back when I was working in a piercer’s shop, the first two to four weeks were the “Don’t mess with it!” stage - no tongues, no hot tubs, no pulling. I don’t have a lot of hope for your safety pin “bandage” to work - it’s probably far too close to the surface. Actually, if the piercing ripped out as easily as it did, the original piercing was probably not deep enough, or your body has been busily trying to reject it, and it was doomed from the get-go.

OK, I’ll put the Nanny Hat away now.

On happier news, we’re planning an ambush wedding. Some friends of ours got married last year by the JP because they couldn’t afford a “nice” wedding, and they didn’t take any notes on how we had a very memorable wedding and party for about 200 people for under $1500.

We have an idea of how to get them reasonably well-dressed and in the same place as our minister friend - their newborn baby apparently needs to be baptized. So it will be an “Oh by the way, as long as you’re standing in front of me…”

I grew up in the Last House in Small Town so I never got an ice cream truck experience. I was surprised to see one tootling by Teacher Sister’s house after Thanksgiving last year. Niece was nonchalant about it. Kid doesn’t know how lucky she is.

Moonie: :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: That story made the backs of my hands tingle. That’s a Very Bad Feeling. (I used to get all my IVs through my hands, so now they’re very sensitive.** Do not touch** the back of my hands.)

The Great Tree Orgasm has not yet started here. It’s due in a week or so. In the meantime, enjoy this staring cat video.

Speaking of dislodged piercings, Gnat very nearly yanked the stud off my nose at one point (whilst trying to add my teeth, tongue and glasses to his collection). I’ve had it long enough for me to just pop it back in, but once upon a time that procedure would have involved much swearing and whimpering on my part.

Glad I don’t have more shiny things on my face, or else he might have tried to snag those too. He’s adorable enough to get away with it, though.

Moonie, hope the wound heals up quickly… and do be more careful next time, young man. You’ve only got one set of nipples, you know, and you can’t count on them always growing back if you keep insisting on tearing them off. Hmph.

**Muppet **- we used to get Mr. Softee every once in a while, so I know that tune. Somewhere in the back of my mind are lyrics, but I don’t know if they’re from a commercial or just something we made up.

Anyway, home, having survived Monday. I’ve got a chicken carcass simmering in a pot of water, but I don’t think that will be supper. Not sure what I want to do for supper… I’ll figger something out.

We’re watching the weather for the week - hoping to take Friday afternoon off to finish painting the boat. We really need to go back into the water this weekend so we can move to our new marina. So fingers crossed for a pleasant, non-rainy Friday.

Other than that, just another day in paradise. Back to class tomorrow, since spring break is over. I expect I’ll spend both days this week applying underglaze to my first 2 pieces. Oh, crap, and I need to do my research paper. grrrrrr

Whatevah! Happy Monday! Feel better, kai! Moonie, I didn’t read. I knew it’d give me the heebie-jeebies. But feel better anyway. Heck, everybody feel better! Mom-kisses all around! MWAH!

Oh, trust me, I’m fully aware of the magnitude of my stupidity; I already knew pretty much all of that, but I chose to ignore common sense because I’m young, and as we all know, young people are invincible. Or was that “think they’re invincible”? Ah well. Whatever happens, happens, and will be filed under “Good Idea” or “Learning Experience” accordingly. Because I don’t have Bad Ideas… I have Learning Experiences.

In much better news… Troy Roommate saves the day! I missed the last Physics Discussion session and so I never got the homework, which is due today. But Troy’s in the same class as I am and was able to give me the assignment so I can finish it on time. Squee!

Today is, all in all, a very good day. I slept like a rock last night, had two easy classes this morning, then a nice long break before Physics discussion, a delicious lunch, I got the HW I needed to finish, and the weather is BEAUTIFUL - clear blue skies, bright warm sun, cool crisp air, it’s perfect! It really does feel like Spring. I haven’t been in such a nauseatingly cheery mood in a long time, and I’m loving it, although I think my roommates are trying to figure out if I’ve lost my mind.

Saw a funny church sign on my way back to campus yesterday: “Easter is more than just something to dye for.” I’ve seen that same church set up their sign to read “Our church is like fudge - really sweet, with a few nuts.” I may be an atheist but I think I’d get along with those people pretty well.

Hugs all around, whether you all want them or not; personalized responses will be delivered later when I have time but for now I gotta skip out and answer inane conceptual physics questions!

skips gleefully out of the thread

ETA: I see that between FCM and myself we’ve just delivered hugs and kisses to everyone here. You all should be quite cheerful now!

Ah piercings, yes. More than a few years ago my oldest daughter got two eyebrow piercings which were kinda cute. Her then boyfriend got one of those right under the lower lip studs put in. When he came home I teased him about having a button put on his face. Right about then my son, who was still a small boy, came into the room, jumped on the boyfriends lap, and looked at the stud. Suddenly he reached out and pushed it, just like you would a button! The boyfriend was groaning, and I was cracking up.

I have had earrings ripped out of my earlobes, so I understand the pain. It’s just that the situations always seem to have some humor in them. I am not into piercings, other than my ears, but I don’t have a problem with it. I am much more into tattoos. I have three smallish ones, but I want a, well, kinda like a sleeve only on my right calf, and not going all the way around.

Anyway, moontune good luck with the healing. When my ear lobe was ripped in half I just let it heal and then re-pierced it.

Still snowing, hopefully this is the last big snow if the winter. My wrist is sore, but tolerable, thanks for the well wishes

Hi to everyone who said hi, and even those who didn’t, and Happy Monday to everyone!

Oh goody, now we are under a blizzard warning until sometime tomorrow. Sound like a good day to snuggle under a blanket with a book to me!
