Bizarro World Ice Cream Truck…A Herald of Spring MMP

I’m finally home from work and Death Chicken is in the oven. It’ll be a late dinner unfortunately.

I was rear-ended on the way home from work. Just a perfect ending, to a perfect day.

At any rate, there isn’t any damage to my vehicle; I guess that Ford Built Tough slogan is true! However, the guy who hit me has a big hole in his front bumper. He hit the socket on my trailer hitch and, because he drives a mini-van, his bumper sits lower than my Expedition’s bumper. We pulled off to the side of the road, but because there wasn’t any damage to my vehicle, I didn’t exchange insurance information with him. There really isn’t any point. He told me was wife was going to be pissed though. His mini-van looked to be a fairly recent model, so I guess I can understand that.

What I don’t understand is how he didn’t see the biiiiiiiig long line of cars at a full stop. Thank God my brakes work and I didn’t hit the guy in front of me.

Sending get will vibes to Li-Li.

**Moonie, **just plain is ouch is what I’ll say WRT to your owie.

My son has a job interview on April 4th. Fingers crossed everyone. He’s stoked!

Kisses and hugs to all!

Eeek. Glad you’re okay, Taters. Sounds like the other guy didn’t get off so lucky… if he didn’t get whiplash from the impact, you can bet he’ll get it from trying to duck and cover when his wife freaks out over their bumper. :stuck_out_tongue:

LiLi, I seem to have run out of productivity, unfortunately. I came home intending to do a whole buncha stuff, but seem to have managed very little besides processing a few photos from the giant pile I took in the past two weeks. I am lazy, hear me roar.

gotti, sounds like someone has earned themselves a big smelly trout right in the piehole… that oughta shut 'em up. Hmph. The nerve.

Look! Crocuses! (yes, I’m ecstatic over having something in my garden other than a giant pile of snow… so much so that I’ll probably mention them a half-dozen more times before the week is through)

Moonie, I do hope that you heal up okay, but I must confess that I could -not- read your injury report  A bit too much for me. Definitely sending healing thoughts your way.

Gotti, I humbly suggest turkey tetrazzini, which just naturally happens to be my favorite thing to make with leftover turkey (well, after the traditional turkey/stuffing/cranberry sauce sandwich that is). Yum, I loves some turkey!

We had turkey tacos tonight in fact. Ground turkey, that is, and made with soft flour tortillas. So far, we’ve had much success in substituting ground turkey for ground beef in both tacos and chili. Meatloaf is next, I suspect.

Tomorrow I go to the pulmonary specialist and will probably get my breathing tested. Keep me in your thoughts, please.

Good luck with that appointment, tarra!

Boo on someone blabbing about the surprise wedding, gotti!

Pretty crocus, Muppet. Looked through some of your other pics, too. You’re a really good photographer! Wish I had more patience with the camera. Also, I miss iPhoto. Really have to get myself another Mac laptop.

Crash sounds nervewracking, Taters. Glad you and your vehicle are OK.

I’ve planted 21 little containers with petunia seeds. It’s a little late to be planting them, but I should be able to use them in several containers. Pictures tomorrow as I should already be in bed. Needless to say I’m not doing so well with the Lenten resolution lately.

Back tomorrow…

Awwww. My neighbor came by with the kitten who she started taking care of at the age of 13 days – and Clover is now seven months old! She has epilepsy and walks kinda funny, but otherwise is doing great. Just her surviving was a miracle, and I haven’t seen her in longer than I realized. Now she’s all leggy teenage kitten. Too cute! (Sorry, I didn’t think to get pics. Perhaps the next time I see her.)

Ground turkey works great, or at least it does for me.

And having been there when an ex-boyfriend got his nipple pierced (I swear he levitated straight off the table!) I’ve been trying not to think too hard about your accident, Moonie, but I hope you’re feeling better. Yowch.

I survived work, Canes win ugly, but it’s still 2 points, Gordie is eating a volleyball.

Good luck Herbs!

Moonie,[sup]10[/sup]

Glad you and the truck are OK, Taters

Meeks!!! : waves enthusiastically :

Get better soon, LiLi

Moonie! :eek::eek::eek:

Hope you feel better soon, LiLi.

I found the ice-cream truck in my neighborhood last week, but I forgot which tunes it plays. I’m sure “Sailing, Sailing” and “Turkey in the Straw” are among them. I know there is another one that plays “Happy Birthday to You” but it hasn’t come around yet. Neither has the one that plays “Music Box Dancer,” but we hardly ever go to that one because the driver is a bitch who apparently doesn’t like kids. “So why does she drive an ice cream truck then?” you might ask. Good question, says I.

Death Chicken sounds interesting. If I might have the recipe please?

Last night I made capirotada, which is a type of Mexican bread pudding that is usually made during Lent. Most of the recipes I’ve found involve baking, but since my oven has long since gone to the Big Kitchen in the Sky, I made it on the stove. I made a relatively watery sugar syrup with cinnamon sticks and (my idea) a tiny pinch of anise. Then I added chopped apples, raisins and a tablespoon of butter and stirred till the apples were cooked. Last of all, I turned off the stove and added some stale bread we had lying around. It came out better than I expected. I know it’s supposed to have cheese and walnuts, but cheese and I don’t get along, and we were out of walnuts. My mom and I liked it, though. Dad decided to have pan dulce for dessert instead, and the Princess doesn’t like bread pudding, so they missed out. I think I’ll make a larger batch to take to work on Friday, and see how my coworkers like it.

I made peppered pork casserole last night which was declared Teh Yum. Just as well, 'cos there’s leftovers in the fridge. The builder has been pinned down to 7pm on Thursday night so we should be able to make some big decisions after talking to him.

Tonight’s Fat Club but the scales weren’t saying anything nice to me this morning…

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Rumbly tummy tells me it wants brekkies soonest too.

Taters I’m glad you and truck are ok. However, don’t feel surprised if you feel a little achy today.

Look, a Meeks sightin’!

Lucky maybe somebody a little more ambitious than me will link to the Mumper recipe blog. You’ll find death chicken and many other tasty things there. A recipe for that bread puddin’ would fit in real good, hint, hint.

Ok, need more caffiene and need to shut rumbly tummy up. He’s gettin’ real persistent about brekkies.

Later Y’all!

Blurf.

Carry on.

I was so shocked earlier that I forgot to say: Meeeeeeeeeeeeks!!!

Lucky, here’s a link to the blog. And the Death Chicken recipe.

It’s late!!! Gotta go.

Blurf.

tarra, I’m thinking lovely healthy lung thoughts for you today. Hope it goes well.

Thanks for the compliment, gt. I know some pretty awesome photogs, so I’ve been lucky enough to learn a few tricks from them… enough to fake being a half-decent photog, anyways.

Lucky, I loves me some bread pudding, though I’ve never seen one that’s made without an eggy custard base… sounds interesting. I’ll definitely give this one a try next time I’ve got some apples that need using up.

Speaking of food, I must make a confession. I was bad. I didn’t have time to pack a breakfast this morning, so I snarfed down a lemon danish from the cafe. It was tasty, but I can feel my hips expanding as we speak. :frowning:

Dammit!

The hamsters ate my post. It was really good too. Witty and charming and lovely.

Oh well - have a good day and watch out for errant ice cream trucks, exploding volcanoes, hail, sleet, blizzards and pollen…

Mwah!

We had chickie (NOC) fried cube steak and some yaller squash last night. It was good. I’m thinking barbacue chicken boobs for tonight with some yaller rice. (Do we see a pattern?)

taters, glad you didn’t have any damage. I’m betting rear-ender was either talking on his cell or texting.

Good luck, tarra

Lo, meeks!

Beautiful pic, muppet!

I must be feeling a bit better because I was able to stay up and watch Heros.

Tupug

Glad your truck was ok Taters.

Meeks!! Hi!!

Good luck, tarra!

If I can’t plant anything outside until the very end of May, when would I start seeds inside (like basil, cilantro, etc.)? I’m just going to buy a tomato plant because we only have room for 1. And I think the lettuce or spinach seeds just go directly in the ground outside in May, right?

We had Asian-inspired peanut veggie noodles for dinner last night. Unfortunately, it’s not a recipe so much as general directions: saute veggies of your choice (usually red bell peppers, snow peas, and green onions) just for a couple minutes. Add peanut butter (LOTS), a little molasses, some hot sauce, lots of soy sauce, and a decent amount of cider vinegar. (I really like cider vinegar in this, not rice wine vinegar. I tried to make it more authentic by using the rice wine kind, but it just didn’t taste as good.) Then add any other veggies that don’t need cooking (water chestnuts, edamames - these really help to add a different texture and lots of protein). Oh and while doing all that, boil pasta - I like whole wheat linguine; KT likes soba noodles. So we had linguine last night. :stuck_out_tongue: Toss it all together and add some fresh cilantro and maybe some peanuts. It’s yummy.

Hello everybody and nice to see you guys.

Hey, LiLi (and any other baking nerds among us)… you should check out this video of Peter Reinhart doing a TEDtalk about the process and spirituality of bread-making. It’s online here. He’s one of my huge foodie crushes (right up there with Steingarten, actually)… he spent several years working with a non-denominational semi-monastic order that ran Brother Juniper’s Cafe, so he has some wonderful ideas about the spirituality of food, and he’s one hell of a speaker.

(there’s also a great TEDtalk by Mark Bittman here about what’s wrong with the North American diet)

taxi, check the seed packet… it should tell you whether you should start early indoors or just sow right into the ground once it’s warm enough. If starting indoors, you usually start 6-8 wks before the last frost date, so early/mid April would probably be right for you. Basil does start indoors, if I remember right, and I’m assuming that most other annual herbs would also be the same. Lettuce and other greens go straight into the ground once there’s no risk of frost.

waaaaayyyy too busy, but just had to say “hi!” to Meeks as well-- long time no see in the MMP!

Hugs, yays, boos etc… to everybody else. (well, **Meeks **gets some of the hugs, too :))

Why do people ruin stuff? I was looking forward to the Stealth Wedding.

I came in here to whine that my Scrabble beta app in Facebook has decided that I am no longer on the North American continent or the island of Puerto Rico. Morons.

Have a good day, all. Am off to run errands.

Good luck to those who need it today–those of you who feel lucky, spread the wealth a bit, okay? Ta.

Good morning all. It’s a blurf day, that’s for sure.

Thanks all for your good wishes. The SUV is still fine and so am I. No aches, no nothing…

**Meeks! ** So good to see you here!

Well, I have far too much to do here at work and not nearly enough time, so I guess I should get back to it. It doesn’t help that I JUST DON’T WANT TO BE HERE IN MY OFFICE.

Ta for now. Hugs, gropes, squeezes, kisses to all.
