There I am, playing Pimpwar, bein’ a badass and so on, and someone asks me about my screen name. I get emails regarding my handle on a semi-regular basis; both from the SDMB and from pimpwar. I realize I have an odd handle. It originally comes from an obscure character from the fourth book of Douglas Adam’s self-described trilogy of five books. Wonko The Sane is an eccentric scientist who owns an inside-out house, and is married to Arcane Jill.
Turns out there is a Douglas Adams fan in charge of Beast Wars the cartoon. Here is a transcript from an episode.

Waspinator is suffering from a blow to the head. 'Nough said.
I did a Google search on the name MsRobyn. The first few are me. The last one on the first page is not. The last one on the first page belongs to a dominatrix. I am not a dominatrix.
And for anyone contemplating reading my Live Journal, don’t waste the time. I don’t use it.
I recently received an e-mail from a Doper who noticed a “Crunchy Frog” playing Counter Strike and wanted to know if it was me. I had never heard of Counter Strike before the e-mail.
When I first joined here, despite using this Username for a good three years or so beforehand, nevertheless one long-time Doper by the name of kellibelli had an ex-boyfriend who posted… his name was Shitboy.
When I first became Legomancer I did a search and found no other hits. Nowadays I have found other people using the name. I suspect it’s from the infamous AYBABTU video, which I was credited in. Since then, people have used the name as their FPS shooter handle and I saw a “LegoManser” (sic) on amessage board somewhere. It ticks me off, really, but what are you gonna do?
AHA! Schazbat! Eureka! Now I get it! There are 2 Wonko the Sanes (Wonkos the Sane?)! There is the SDMB Wonko, who saw the Beast Wars episode, heard his nickname, and was suprised, and the one who was “honored” by the mention!
You see, there is this great site, http://www.bwtf.com, run by Ben Yee, who goes by Wonko the Sane, and has many connections in the Transformers community, including to the folks at Mainframe Entertainment who produced that episode.
Fun story: a while ago, new to SDMB, I noticed “Wonko the Sane” on the main page, having submitted this badass page where you can get yourself made as an action figure to Weird Earl’s. Making the mental connaction Wonko=TransFan=Action-Figure Enthusiast, I went to http://www.bwtf.com, and shot off an e-mail to Ben Yee, saying that I saw his contribution, checked it out, found it cool , and that I like his site, etc… Well, I never heard back from him, nor did my missive show up on the letters page (disclaimer: I have no idea how much mail this guy gets). Now I realize he must have thought I was just some wacko TransFan hallucinating…
