Blast from the past - obscure hair metal band

When I was about 12, I started listening to “guitar-oriented music” a lot. I was not very discriminate. Anything that featured heavy distortion and big hair was sure to get my attention.

One weekday afternoon (probably a Wednesday), I was at my grandmother’s flat, waiting for my dad to come and pick me up. I was watching tv, music videos, as I always did. It was almost exclusively forgettable pop hits of the time but all of a sudden these bad boys appeared on the screen and for some reason I was… impressed, I guess. I only knew very little English back then but it was enough to understand about 90% of the chorus.

I’m pretty sure that I only saw that video once and yet, I never forgot it. For some reason, I’d have the words pop up in my head from time to time. Well, it’s happened again but now, there’s the Internet. I’d thought about it before but I couldn’t be bothered to start searching for it. This time however, I was ready.

It took me a couple of minutes to find it. Almost 30 years have gone by but my memories were spot-on. The lead singer waving a chainsaw wildly in the desert. And the lyrics. You, me and the boys get together and make some noise.

Pure cheese :D.

Anyone familiar with their… oeuvre?

My dad went to some of their concerts back in the day (I’m really young compared to some of the other Dopers). I think he knew a member personally, or maybe a friend of his dated somebody from the band (I’d have to ask.) Slave Raider was really popular for a time with Minneapolis metalheads.

Yeah, they must have had some success at the time. Otherwise, it’s hard to explain that video being on tv in the middle of the afternoon on a European channel. Metal was not something that was regularly on tv at that hour in the mid-80s. You had to wait until late in the evening to see some (if at all).

Oh gawd, flashback. They used to play at the Iron Horse, a local bar, frequently. I don’t know how many times I saw them.
