Blocking a user

I think I heard a rumour that there’s a “block” or “ignore” function where you can set things up so that you don’t see a certain poster’s posts. Is this true? If so, how is it done?

Thanks.

Go to: “Edit Friends”. It will allow you to add friends or enemies.

Do I have to add them as a friend/contact first, though?

Actually what you want to do is to edit your ignore list. Go to User CP. Look at the menu on the left side; about 2/3rds of the way down you’ll see “Edit Ignore List.”

Incidentally, it’s against the rules to say who is ON that list, except perhaps in the Pit. And possibly even there; you’ll have to check with a moderator.

Thanks!

That’ll be a dollar, as always.

Too late, now she can’t see your posts anymore!

Oh, I can see them.

(Is it against the rules to say who’s not on your “ignore” list? :stuck_out_tongue: )

Note, insolence, man-eating geese, etc.

[clueless literalist]

Only if you phrase it in a phrase like, “Of Batman, Superman, and Power Girl, the first two are certainly not on my ignore list.”

I thought you’d accepted my apology, EmilyG.:frowning:

Replying to one of their posts would count, so, probably not.

Be aware though, that the ignore list will only block posts originated by the blocked member. If someone else quotes them further down the thread, that person’s comments will show up in the quote box in the second member’s post. There were add-ons that could block ignored users’ comments from quotes, also, but I believe they were rendered obsolete in one of Firefox’s many updates and have not been rewritten. At least, I haven’t found any in searching Google.

Your best bet is to block everyone who isn’t a 99er.

Thanks.

And God Bless you all anyway. :):)

You can still see and reply to the posts of someone you’ve blocked, if you wish. I use the ignore list as more of a stupidity disclaimer than an actual ignore list.

Saying someone is on your ignore list is generally intended as an insult, so it’s not permitted outside the Pit. Along with other insults, it’s permitted in the Pit.

FTFY

Unfortunately, that’s also against the rules. Not reporting you because I don’t want to make a big deal about it, but we can’t alter the intent of quotes in quote boxes.
