[Blood Bowl] The Dopest Cup Registration Thread

What a wonderful day for another bloodbath !

Since quite a few of us in the BloodBowl thread have expressed interest in playing in a Doper league, I figured I’d get the ball rolling to get this show on the road.

What ?
The structure of the League would be a Cup setting, in which every coach plays against each other team twice. At the end of that period, the 4 teams at the top of the rankings face off in a straight elimination round. Winner gets 100.000 gold, runner-up gets 50.000, everyone else gets bruises and bad memories.
If you have a better suggestion, feel free to voice it - until the League officially starts, that structure is still malleable. It won’t be once the first whistle is blown.
**
How ?**
The matches will all happen within Cyanide’s BloodBowl game on the PC, using the Classic setting (turn by turn, tabletop rules, 4 minutes per turn). Because of the way the game handles internet play, it’s sadly not possible to include JavaBowl matches, nor real tabletop game matches in the equation. While the game is also available on the Xbox 360, I don’t think cross-platform play is possible.

Who ?
I believe, based on experience, that the bare minimum of players to make such a thing interesting is 8, 12 being optimal and more being gravy. I also believe it would be best if we all started with brand new TR1000 teams. Start on an equal footing, sort of thing. Teams involved in the League should not play outside of it - fair play off the pitch, please. Anything goes on the pitch, of course

Depending on the number of players involved, entering two or more teams in the competition could be a possibility but I hope we’ll be enough not to have to resort to that.

**When ?
**We’re all busy people with lives and whatnot, so I doubt we can expect more than one match a week - the season cannot move forward until the last two teams have played their match, so the pace will be dictated by our most sedate members. I do hope the registered coaches can free time for at least one hour-long match a week however.

The League itself will start 24 hours after the 12th coach registers, or failing that on Monday, September the 27th at midnight GMT with the registered coaches.

Matches themselves will occur when convenient for the coaches. We’ll see what’s what once everyone has had a say. I believe most of the coaches in the BBowl thread live in the US, so players who like me sit in the Euro zone or in Oz will probably have to make concessions in that department - that may mean staying up late or playing in the afternoon. I’m sure we’ll make do.
**
So what do I do ?
**If you’re interested, simply put down :
1 - your name on the dotted line
2 - the team you’ll be playing
3 - your availabilities and favoured playing times. When you’d like to play, on which days and in which timezone.
4 - Whether or not you have the time and the inclination to play a second team if there’s fewer than 8 or 12 of us, in order to pad out the pool.

Let’s get started then :
I’ll be playing a Chaos team.
My schedule is extremely fluid so I’m essentially available any day, including work week days. I am in Europe (GMT+1) and not a morning person at all, however staying up late is not an issue. I’m up for a second team if need be.

I’ll be playing a Wood Elf team.
My schedule is fairly fluid throughout the week, as long as I have 24-48 hours prior notice. I’m in Japan (GMT + 9), but available most times of the day.

I’m also up for a second team if necessary.

Hmm, actually could I change that to dark elves? I rather like the idea of a slightly bashier team that can still hand out a frustrating passing game.

Sure  The team thing is not binding at all, it’s merely an FYI to the other coaches. That way they get an idea of the general “feel” the League will have, which’ll help them choose what team they’ll play.
I guess it would be a bit of a dick move to say “i’ll play nice Halflings !” the whole week, then register a splat-happy team ingame, but other than that, be of two minds all you want !

Alright, thanks. I just suspect at least one or two of our potential players will like the Skavens, and I’d feel bad playing a skaven team without killing one or two of their linesmen.

Count me in.

I might give the Lizards a run.

I’m in Australia, so GMT+10.

Depending upon time zones I’d probably look to play on weekends, and happy to be up late.

Count me in too.

I’m in the UK (come to think of it, do we have any Yanks yet?) and my free time is mostly in the evenings.

No-one’s gone for Orks yet? Summun’s gotta give da boyz a run-out.

Count me in with a Lizzie team.

I’m in the UK, but so long as matches aren’t in the complete middle of the night i’m fine.

I’ll play the Dwarves. I’ve been playing them in a single player campaign and its been fun. I’ll probably get pummeled but it will be fun anyway.

I’m in the US, eastern time zone. Would have to think about the best time for a UK-US matchup, Its 5 hours difference right?

I’m usually available evenings and some weekends, Sunday evening is probably best for me, nothing else going on, and I’m not out and about for the weekend by then.

It’ll have to be Skaven for me. I’m US Central. I’ve got a pretty flexible schedule and could do most evenings and anytime on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Bumpbowl. That’s 7 registered coaches, we need at least one more.

Should someone PM BlinkingDuck? He said he would be up for a league in the original thread, but he might not have seen this one.

I haven’t been able to look at the details of the downloadable game, but does it have the same Inducement system as in the current ftf BB? I.e. if my team has a value of 1100K and I play a team of 1200K, I get 100K of inducements, so I can buy a reroll, or 2 50K random event cards, or a cheap mercenary, etc.? If the inducment system is largely the same, I will probably be up for it, even with the reduced teams available (I’m a fan of Nurgle, myself.)

But I haven’t bought the game yet.

There is an inducement system. I think it works like you say. When I’ve had a 970 team cause of some KOs, and playing against a 1000, I think I got like 30k inducements, and vice versus when the AI I was playing had a lower value.

My campaign as the Dwarves against the AI has been very fun and also a grindtastic struggle. So I should be ready to play against other people now that I’m starting to understand the game more.

Well tonight I’ll try to see if it’s still available for download for $10. If so it will be worth it. If not, I’ll probably wait to buy the full-roster version which is upcoming.

Inducements are in the game, but not all of them. You only get wandering apo, rerolls and ref bribes, plus any temp player of your race and a handful of star players (usually just the major star player of the race, or Morg 'n Thorg). The random cards are sadly not included.

As for the upcoming version with the 20 teams, I’m not positive it’ll be compatible with the current game. From what I gathered on the Cyanide forum, it’s based on the same engine but it’s not “just” an expansion and owners of the old version will not be able to simply upgrade to the new through a big patch. It seems like either a different beast altogether, or a cheapass marketing ploy .

I’ll have to mull it over for a couple hours, then. Cards and Star Players aren’t critical, but Bloodweiser Babes and Wizards provide a good medium-cost alternative if the numbers just don’t work out merc- wise.

The new game (Legendary Edition) is a completely seperate game. You have to buy new, there is no compability with the original game.

They have offered a discount (30% IIRC), to anyone who can quote the activitation code from their copy of the original game. I believe this equates to ~ $10. So if you can download the current game for 10 bucks, think of it as a deposit to download and play a beta while you wait for the full featured game
