Bluebell Ice Cream Is Evil And A Big Cow Statue... The MMP

Well, if they’re breaking up with one of the Cool Kids, they must be asshats.
Let’s see if I get banned.

Long and sad. I can’t post this in my blog because practically everyone who reads it knows me IRL, and some people might be offended:
I just remembered- something I have a lot of mixed feelings about just happend. One of Mr. Lissar’s good friends is teaching in Taiwan right now. At Christmas he came home, and a friend of his (who is an acquaintance of Mr. Lissar’s) went to Taiwan with him, intending to stay few a few weeks. He stayed on and on, not employed, sponging off MLF. Last week we found out that he’d been in a bad motorcycle accident, with serious head injuries.

Mr. Lissar woke me up this morning to tell me that he needed to borrow my rosary because he died on Monday .

He was around Mr. Lissar’s age, which is 26. I’d met him a few times, and he always struck me as a drifter, and obnoxious. Jaded, very interested in being cool, not much depth. Immature.

He’s the first person around my age that I know that’s died. I’m sad, and angry. He’s someone I didn’t like, but was a friend of a friend, and so I’m mourning for how badly Mr. Lissar’s friend must be feeling, and for what a waste it was. I’m angry, because he never grew up, and now he’s dead, and never will have a chance to fall in love, have kids, grow old, and grow up.

I’ll be praying for him, and for his family, and his friends. Prayers and good thoughts for them would be appreciated. Dammit, now I’m crying.

Li-Li, that is indeed sad. I didn’t know the individual, but after reading your take on him, I feel for his famiy and friends. I’m sending good thoughts their way.

I wish this day would hurry up and end…

It’s their loss! You should set up a screening process - make sure they’re as weird as you before the first date

{{{LiLi and Mr. LiLi}}} Of course your friend, his family and you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I’ve known a few people like that. I know the feeling of thinking “why did he waste his life” and “now we’ll never know what might have happened if he had grownup.” I’m so sorry for your loss.

Rosie, what Bobbio said about your problem. Sounds nasty, I know, but I’m bettin’ it’ll work.

**LiLi ** - I’m sorry for your loss. Any death hurst those left behind.

Not to pull focus, but NYC area folk may recall back in May on the way upper east side, there was an arguement between two men, one pulled a gun, and a woman sitting drinking coffee, minding her own business, took a stray bullet. She was the sisiter of an acquaintance of mine.
btw - thanks, Bobbio, for the suggestion

Sorry about your friend of a friend. Seems that some folk are just not intended to grow old.

I am here somewhat sheepish and embarassed. I just had a meltdown (crying, not yelling, so leave me be, swampy). I am trying to set up my printer and am confused by the instructions. I am so done with user guides and manuals, so I called the store from which I purchased it. And I completely lost it on the phone. I am so stressed out about this paper and the g-damned kitchen, and work and marriage and kids…I am sorry to whine, but it all seems a bit much right now. There are certainly worse problems, but I have also never understood that line of thinking. Yes, there are starving people in _____. But if you are lonely or being beaten by your spouse (I’m not-just an example), those are still legitimate problems, right?
Any way, this very calm, nice person named Mark answered my question with a string of words that were connected grammatically, but that I could not take in. I told him that he had just given me too much information (it was all about the sale/rebate price of whatever his solution was to my issue). And I lost my basket. I got all wobbly voiced and you could tell I was crying and this is what I said:

“I know I am old and cannot do this well, but this is too complicated. I call the help line and am told to ignore stuff in the user guide. I call here and am directed to a product that I didn’t know existed-although the saleperson may well have told me about it–it’s all too much to take in. I dont’ think this way and it’s hard. I need to write papers for grad school-now I need Windows for Mac? Or maybe I don’t–I don’t know. There are so many products and they dovetail in some many variations that I don’t know how to proceed. My printer instructions say one thing and you say another–this is driving me nuts. I’ve got kids, and work and a kitchen from hell and I can’t do this anymore!”

Well, after that, he talked me down and we made an appt for me to have a one on one tutorial for my Macbook. I feel bad, because it’s a free sesssion and they’re usually $90. He was very nice and said I wasn’t old and that he is 41 and that he has a Master’s in distance learning(whatever the hell that means). :o Believe me when I say that I did not rant with an ulterior motive.

Oh, and my birthday is July 12. I don’t know anyone on July 2–except, isn’t Bush’s Bday that day?
So, there is my middle aged temper tantrum for the year. I think that everyone gets one per annum.

trust me, rigs, once you finish working out the kinks and get comfortable with your MacBook, you will love the Mac operating system. It’s far more intuitive than Windows - I use both and so much prefer Mac

Rigs all bets are off when it comes to having meltdowns over puter stuff. See, if the employee had been telling her puter where to go, how it can get there and what it can do once it got there, beyond getting her to calm down, nuttin’ woulda happen. Well, if she had, say, tossed it across the room, then we would have had to talk about replacement costs, but you know what I mean. I have always appreciated support folks. They’re always so nice when I have to talk to 'em. I think they get a kick out of me saying stuff like, “remember I’m old and dumb, so you have to talk slow and use little words.”

rigs, if it’s any consolation, when the Kid got her mac two years ago, I went through hell getting the printer set up and working, and I’m the guy on the block that everyone calls to set up their wireless internet/printer/stereos.

And you’re not old, you’re younger than me. Ya little punk ya…

I psoted a thread on this, but the Northeast US is flooding like crazy. Whoa.

Thanks, all. I feel bad, but not so bad that I’ll offer to pay for the tutorial. I am off to research my topic for my paper.

envy me.
I do hope Cape Cod is spared this flooding–my parent’s summer house is built in a kettle hole (a term for a hollow carved out by glaciers some time ago).

And the Southeast in in drought. There was an article in the paper the other day about farmers having to feed what little hay they had already cut (which was intended for winter feed) to the cows now because there isn’t any grass. And Atlanta is raising hell because the Army Corp of Engineers is sending “too much” water down the Chattahoochee River to Florida for the mussel beds.

My mother emailed me tha two truck drivers were killed not too far from where my parents live after a bridge washed out on a highway. Sad.

I’m sorry about your husband’s friend, Lissla. One of my high school classmates died right after we finished high school, and it was the same sort of situation - he wasn’t the nicest or the most mature person, and he wasn’t someone I really liked. But he was the first (and so far only thank goodness) person my age who’d died, and it really was such a loss. What would have happened if he’d lived longer? Would he have gotten it together? So lots of sympathy for you and Mr. Lissar from someone who knows what you’re feeling.

This has turned into a pretty down Thursday afternoon. :frowning:

Not just the Southeast, SCL (if I may abbreviate you like that  ) - the Southwest has serious drought problems, too, and raging wildfires to prove it. And we really haven’t seen much rain up here in the PNW lately, either, come to think of it.

Praying that the waters recede soon…and for the people who’ve suffered.

I’d be glad to send you some rain! The Hudson is starting to overflow in Troy.

Whew - back from the zoo, and guess what was sitting on my porch when I got here?? Go ahead, guess!

I’ve now got a buttload of little boxes! I’ll be doing more packing tonight, so more boxes will go out in the mail tomorrow. With personalized notes enclosed, because I care.

Hey – this is Thursday! Thursdays are [gi]good days*. I can’t stop or start the rain, fix computers, or help heal a hurt from a lost friend, but I do sympathize and send you all my best wishes, thoughts, and prayers.

In an effort to distract you all from your wordly troubles (yeah, I’m one of those “fixer” types, sorry), I’ve challenged photobucket to a duel, and now attempt to provide you with pictures of my devil dogs (see, spats47, I can pun!), Stink and Stupid.

This is what they look like when they want a cookie. Here’s the big guy’s naptime, and the girl’s playtime.

Awwwwwww! Dey just so cute! I wuv widdle doggies! I just wanna go up and scritch their ears and flap their cute widdle little jowls around…okay, I’ll stop now. I love dogs.

I’m missing my dog right now. I’m sure he’s sitting at home trotting back and forth between the den, great room, and front door looking for me. He starts doing that around 2:30 or so every work afternoon. The kids have told me this.

The best thing about Thursdays is SINGING! (for me, anyway)

Twink, those are some beautiful dogs! I haven’t had a dog in years, my feline overlords won’t allow it.

Hope everyone is drying out from the flooding. Seems a shame all that water where it’s not wanted/needed. As one of my ex-cow-orkers would say: “They” need to do something about that!

Mr. SCL’s patient is scheduled to be released from the hospital tomorrow, so we will hopefully be back to having some income. Mr. SCL doesn’t want to quit the case, but two weeks with no income is frightening. And my job search has been fruitless.
