Would opening threads in new tabs and keeping the subscribed tab help?
Yes, thanks. For me, the frequency is all over the charts. Might be multiple times a day if I log in that often, or it might be once every day or two, or it might not happen again until two weeks or more. Odd that it can’t seem to be duplicated if it’s happening to so many people. But at least now I have someone in authority saying they’re looking into and are as yet mystified, so I’ll probably re-up. If you can’t fix it, I at least like to know someone cares enough to look.
That doesn’t seem to matter, at least not for me if I get what you mean. You mean instead of going to the list of subscribed threads under User CP, I should just go to New Posts? That’s zapped me too.
That’s pretty much how it affects me as well. I’m probably about to jinx myself by saying this but it hasn’t happened to me for almost a week. Other times, it can happen every day or even more often. If there was a particular time it’s likely to happen, I’d avoid logging on then and I did think for a while that I had identified the worst time but turns out I was wrong.
It’s definitely not a time-of-day situation in my case. It can happen at any time of day or night.
I also have this happen pretty regularly, with a similar frequency. I usually go to User CP to look at my subscribed threads. The first time, I can go and read the thread, but when I go back, it has updated and I have to go through “List Subscriptions” and try to remember the last time I was here to figure out how far back to go to read them.
Not here either, unfortunately, despite my earlier ideas to the contrary. I wish it was time related - it’d be a lot easier to avoid.
New problem (for me) today is I can’t use the Advanced Search function. It grinds away for a bit, then tells me I have to wait X seconds to try again. The drop-down quick Search box seems okay though.
No. I mean once you have a working list of threads, don’t touch it. Don’t leave it, don’t refresh it and don’t close it. Open links from it in new tabs. What seems to be happening is: you get a nice list. You leave the list to view a thread. When you get back to the list, it’s gone. So keep the list open all the time. Have you seen people who always open search results in new tabs? Like that.
This time it reset to 11:19 this morning local time. Which is not a time I was logged in at all.
Sometimes, but mostly no. Most of the time, I log on, it shows my correct last-logout time, then as soon as I click on my first link anywhere, it jumps to my last-logout time is now, and everything is erased.
Sometimes it will happen after I make it so far as to look at a thread, but mostly it’s right away, before I can look at anything.
Report back from our Tech God, which I’m paraphrasing: the system does shut down, supposedly only on Sunday mornings at 2 AM Chicago time, for maintenance and re-something-or-other-ing.
In terms of the other, Jerry was unable to reproduce it, and just thinks it’s a system feature beyond our control. Sorry.
That would make sense. It’s always 2pm Sunday afternoon in Bangkok, as we’re 12 hours ahead of you this time of year.
Thanks for the word on the other.
The problem there is that sometimes I’ll get zapped after I open the list of threads, but before I go through it to open all my tabs. I open the tabs via the down arrow icon, which takes me to the first ‘new’ message in that thread. If my last visited time gets updated, then it takes me to the last message in the thread instead.
Oh I get what you mean. The list of threads is static, but the links point to newpost, which is only calculated when the link is clicked. Might have to find the newest post manually by time then.
Zapped again. Second time since Sunday.
Another metric - Both yesterday and today, after I scanned through General Questions and went to Great Debates, my Last Visit time changed from yesterday to now. All posts in Great Debates and beyond, earlier than NOW, are reset as READ.
This is exactly the same thing that happened a few months ago, and then was fixed.
I don’t understand opening threads in tabs or most of the other stuff posted above. It should just work the way it always has; we have not had any software upgrades in quite a while.

Zapped again. It’s snowballing once more.
Me too. First time in a long time for me.
Fixed already Jerry? At least it is back to working as normal with only a single problem day.
Bob
I haven’t been zapped in a while. Got to be my turn again soon, I’m sure, but I hate it. It’s like waiting for the other shoe to drop.
