I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you people. I thought it was pretty funny.
I’d put it about halfway between “Liked It” and “Meh,” so I rounded up.
I really want to like it. Producer/writer Loren Bouchard has done some great stuff (Dr. Katz, Home Movies) and IMO H. Jon Benjamin is the greatest voice actor there is.
But the pilot tried way too hard. It would have been funnier if it were more mundane, if that makes sense. If they dial back on the big bombastic plotlines and focus on the family characters they might have something here. I’ll keep watching.
I was all ready to hate on it and file it away in the Cleveland Show bin of my channel surfacing repertoire and you know what, it was kind of funny.
Is anyone else watching this show?
Agreed. H. Jon Benjamin is 20x funnier in Archer. “No, Lana, the helium!”
Wow. I can’t believe all these people hated one show so much:
By the way, these comments were actually from Feb 6, 2005 and the pilot episode of American Dad. Just the first page of comments at that. And yet, they seem so familiar.
Yes, the people in the thread started last night.
Merged duplicate threads.
I didn’t find Bob’s Burgers at all funny and disliked the animation style. And I’ve never watched American Dad, so no familiarity there.
I was interested to see it since they advertised the hell out of this, but wow, that sucked. To be fair I thought the pilot for Cleveland sucked too, but that one has grown on me a bit, but I don’t know that I’ll ever want to see another episode of this. It was horrible.
This right here. It gave me a couple big laughs (“Like I don’t have chalk.”) and some decent chuckles, which ain’t half bad for a pilot episode. I’ll keep watching to see how it goes. And anything that breaks up the Seth monopoly is a good thing in my book (I enjoy his shows, but really? do we need three-going-on-four?).
I was torn between “didn’t like it” and “hated it”. I didn’t think I was emotionally involved enough to hate it but then I remembered I actually had to sit though it to see the shows after it and one of them was The Cleveland Show which I already dislike so I figured that pushed me into the “hated it” category since I already dislike one show in that line up. I can’t wait until I can get DVR.
A few chuckles, but too far between. There has to be a quick pace and lots of laughs to justify the lousy animation.
I actually thought it was hilarious. There were a couple of times when I couldn’t hear the next line because I was laughing so hard.
I will definitely keep watching.
“Your mother and I will be downstairs grinding the meat.”
How is that not funny?
That’s not a euphemism.
I also liked:
“What are you, the meat-falling-on-the-ground police?”
“Yes. Health inspector.”
“They have those?”
“I have a rash on my crotch”
“Are you telling me this as my fry cook or as my daughter? Because my fry cook would never tell me that and my daughter shouldn’t be telling me that either. Talk to your mother about this.”
Don’t taste me bro was the only funny part in the show. The rest of it was horrible. Bad animation, annoying voices, boring plot and crappy jokes.
I absolutely loved it, but I’m already partial to a lot of the people involved like Kristen Schaal and Eugene Mirman.
“You’re the worst kind of autistic, you can’t even count.”
Same here. In fact, I missed the “Don’t taste me bro” line. Awesome.
Today’s Special: The Child Molester
To be fair, I still don’t like American Dad. I have upgraded it from horrible to something I just don’t watch though.
This show will either turn out to be one of my all time favorites or I’ll hate it and never watch it again. I’ve finished the first episode and I still have no idea where it’ll land.
