Bob's Burgers

Why was I not informed of how good this show is?!

I remember hearing about it on a podcast interview with Eugene Mirman back when it came out, but frankly thought it sounded kinda lame. Then the recent Archer episode featured it, which convinced me to give it a shot.

It’s really good! It’s quirky, but not too quirky. The voice actors seem to perfectly flesh out the characters (especially Kristen Schaal as Louise).

Now I can’t wait to get home and get back to watching it.

Oh, and someone posted in the Archer thread that they wished the kids spoke in that episode- I couldn’t agree more!

The show is F-ing hilarious! Over the top, but not too far over the edge. I hope they don’t water it down or have the writers start slipping into Simpsons land. Really fun show!

Originally the family were cannibals… REALLY glad they changed that.

I missed nearly all of season 2 and for some reason Netflix hasn’t added it, but I loved season 1 and love season 3 so far.

Love this show! I try to bring it up as much as possible.

Obviously, you aren’t following me closely enough

I love the fact that the burger of the day is almost always a pun, with an explanation of it also on the board. lol

My only complaint is that surely there are female voice actors who could have just as ably portrayed Linda and Tina.

It kinda bugged me at first that those two characters are played by men, but I got used to it, and now I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m not even writing angry letters about it. But the writing is strong enough, I don’t think they need the crutch of, “It’s men! Pretending to be women! Hahahaha!”

I believe we’ve had threads about it on this board before, but it doesn’t have a critical mass of support for a season thread much less an every episode thread. But welcome to the Club (comes with extra slice of bread).

Bob’s Burgers is awesome. It continually delivers laughs, always goes where you don’t think it will go, and it gave us the phrase “erotic friend fiction.”

I’ve totally flipped my position on this. I very much disliked it at first, and mentioned it here in at least two different threads. But I’d say that by around this most recent Christmas, I considered it my favorite current TV comedy. It’s hilarious, the voices are great, just really top-notch!

It’s the only animated show I watch on Fox’s Sunday night. The Simpsons is long past its prime and I have no love for the puerile humor of Seth McFarlane, but Bob’s Burgers is consistently funny.

Yup…and there are men who can do it too.

I was sold from the second episode when Bob gets stuck in the crawlspace of the shop. Such a great episode.

This sounds like something Gene would say.

Is it just me, or are the kids the real stars of the show (or at least should be, as most of the Bob & Linda stuff isn’t particularly funny)? My only real hangup with the show is, what’s with Louise and the bunny ears?

Even when she loses them in an episode, she wears a hood over her head. True, there have been times when she has been without any head covering, but in every case, either they don’t show her, or they show an extreme close-up of her face. It sounds like there should be a story about this, but I think that it’s just the writers thinking that it’s a running gag, like Maggie not speaking on The Simpsons, and they need to keep it going 100% without bothering to say why.

Here’s some trivia: in the opening credits, there’s always a different store to the right of Bob’s Burgers (on the other side from Mort’s), but in the series itself, it is always an empty storefront.

I LOVE Bob’s Burgers. I was worried it wouldn’t last long as alot of shows I love do, but it looks like its doing quite well. In fact I might just have to go watch an episode On Demand right now.

Don’t know why exactly, but a lot of people seem to be bothered by this. Mostly guys. They also find Linda & Tina annoying. They think Linda is excessively whiny and Tina is a lesbian. I think that’s just an incredibly shallow, superficial take on it. It reminds me of how every single guy who didn’t like King of the Hill, it was always because they couldn’t stand the Peggy Hill character.

Interestingly though, in the pre-production versions of Bob’s Burgers (even including the pilot animatic) Tina *was *originally a boy.

Really? As a guy, I didn’t like King of the Hill because I didn’t find it funny. Then again, Tina’s my favorite character on Bob’s Burgers, so maybe I’m an outlier.

I didn’t care for it at first but it’s grown on me.

You’re not SUPPOSED to like Peggy Hill! I’ve heard a lot of showrunners and comedians complain about how in sitcoms (animated and live action) you can’t have an unlikeable character. It starts off in testing where they show the cartoon and have the test audience press green/red for like/dislike. Of course a character like Peggy would be red through and through and producers will say “Axe the Peggy character. She didn’t test well.” when it’d be an absolute mistake to do so. Then it escalated to people not enjoying the show because they’re stuck on laugh mode and don’t like any wet blankets whatsoever like the people mentioned by Hail Ants who don’t like the show because the unlikable character is unlikable. Shame.

I made it through season 1, then purchased season 2 on iTunes.

I could just barely make it through most of those episodes. Good lord, season 1 was fun, but season 2 just seemed… tedious.

How does season 3 stack up? Should I just abandon the show?
