Bodini vs Stream

This is not a rant. I’ve culled the posts of Carol Stream and Bodini from the Black Friday Can Fuck Off thread in light of the charge by Bodini that Stream’s posts need cooling down. Bodini obviously regarded this charge seriously with an official WARNING that has implications for future banning.

Perhaps I’m a SDMB sociopath because I don’t really understand the offence in this particular thread and failing to understand could make me vulnerable to getting banned which I hope to avoid. Can someone explain this to me and how Stream could acceptably present her opinion in this pit thread as well as defend herself?

By the way, I also thought it was a good OP. But I also think there’s room for the sentiment of "suck it up "

If you read Lynn’s warning, you’ll note she was referring to Carol Stream’s overall pattern of behavior and not just in this thread. If this had been the only occurrence of bad behavior, it wouldn’t have even been a blip on the radar.

And the best way to get on Lynn’s list is to misspell her name. There’s only one “i”.

Obviously I’m not a mod, but since the overwhelming guideline for posting on the board is “Don’t be a jerk.”, I would think that doing pretty much nothing but complaining, being bitching and intentionally trying to piss folks off, would fall into that category. Lots (mostly newbies, I think) have been banned for just that. No matter what though, One Trick Pony-ism is pretty much frowned on by both the members and TPTB.

Just my guess, anyway. And I’ve never (to my knowledge) seen anything positive from that person either.

Carol Stream’s got 35 non-Pit posts out of 189. I think that begins to constitute a pattern.

Once again, it’s nothing specifically egregious in this thread, per se. It’s an overall pattern of behavior that Lynn is addressing.

She comes in soly to make snarky remarks about the OP, to dismiss said rant, and to keep haranging everyone to address her. She was hijacking and making the thread about HER, and not the OP.

Drive-by thread pissing. I haven’t seen enough examples from other threads personally to reach a conclusion but that seems to be what others think. I only open a few Pit threads that interest me so I must have missed most of it.

to be totally fair, however, especially in the linked thread, it became about Carol 'cause everybody seemed to feel it necessary to rebut her individually. then she’d respond. and 4 more people would respond, then she’d respond etc etc.

The Flying Dutchman: It was not Carol Stream’s behavior in that thread that got her a warning. That only added to it. If you really want a good feel why Carol Stream got warned and why so many posters have no patience for Carol Stream; you need to view all the users posts and discover Carol Stream’s pattern of thread pissing and acting like little more than a troll.

I and several others have noted her misbehavior and apparently **Lynn ** did a little checking last night and discovered that Carol Stream is trollish.

I have the impression Mr. or Ms. Stream takes some sort of personal offence at the general subject matter dealt with in the Pit, whether it be the overall liberal stance taken by many members or just out of a general crankiness.

There seems little question, though, that the snarky comments about teenage angs(t) by Carol, followed by that poster’s rather feeble attempt at junior modding, was thread-shitting of the first order. Jeepers, it would be one thing if the OP of that thread had dropped his rant into a GD discussion on the outcome of elections in Afghanistan, but it was a Pit rant, and no one is being dragged by the nose to the Pit to read it. Streamer’s pointless sniping is of the same general type as that of a person who enters a Cafe Society discussion of a film to announce what a complete piece of shite it is, and how stupid everyone is for liking it. Such comments add no value and are unnecessarily confrontational.

Just about everything I’ve seen from this poster is pretty much the same: attempts to pick fights with other posters over insignificant issues. The Warning seems perfectly appropriate.

This was my main problem. I noticed that **Stinkpalm ** was fairly negative towards the Op also, but his post detailed why he was negative and was not just useless snarking. If you post in the pit, you need to expect some grief and I think we all know how many pittings backfire. Carol Stream’s are just infantile and of no value. **Stinkpalm’s ** was probably just as negative, but appears to be a constructive and valid opinion and as such, I at least had no problem with it.

The notion that the “don’t be a jerk” rule is clear and uniformly enforced is ridiculous, though. Either there should be a flat-out “no snarking on the OP” rule or it should be open season. As it is, it seems completely on the whim and personal taste of the moderator to decide when the OP needs to be protected and when the OP has it coming.

Hm, I’m in the camp that Carol Stream had it coming. I had been kind of wondering why she hadn’t been “smacked down” as it were, sooner.

The point is that she consistently pisses in threads, and the thread in question was probably kind of the final straw. If this had been the only instance, it probably wouldn’t have even been noticed.

We all have our snarky moments. Unfortunately, hers seem to be more than moments.

It seems that without any hard and fast rules, the board runs amazingly well. They tolerate rare jerkish behavior and leave a lot up to us posters for self-policing and educating new posters. I do not think anyone has ever claimed the “don’t be a jerk” rule is clear and uniformly enforced. I have not witnessed and heavy-handed modding. If anything there are a few posters, I wish they would smack down or educate quicker. Carol Stream is one of them.

I agree. I’ve only noticed this activity in political Pit threads till now (where, frankly, thread-crapping is pretty much the order of the day), but if she’s going to expand her horizons, then I agree with Lynn that she’s in need of a smackdown.

Also agreed. When I saw the thread, before I saw Lynn’s warning, I thought the same. There is definitely a pattern of jerkish behavior overall. Hell, when I see a nasty post in the Pit shitting in the middle of the thread, I think Carol Stream before I even look at the poster’s username. Not a good thing.

This has been discussed, both on the board and in private amongst the mods/admins. There really isn’t any way to make a hard and fast set of guidelines on how to define “being a jerk”.

Do you disagree that Carol Stream was being a jerk?
