I think the fact that De Niro was targeted is pretty telling towards the loony right wing nutter as the perpetrator. Why target him? Well, because he said mean things about Trump, that’s why. Not that the others on the list weren’t strong indications, but I think he’s the key target in determining the kind of person(s) who did this.
Maybe not, but not a single one of them went off, which means the trigger was garbage. All of these have been described as things that could potentially explode, not that they were likely to explode. If you want it to kill it’s intended recipient, you’d have it wired to go off when the package was opened. A timer would be stupid.
My guess is that designing a triggering mechanism that will go off when the package is opened but* won’t* go off when it is being tossed around by the USPS is incredibly difficult.

Obviously the police should keep as many of the details secret as necessary, but I still wonder - do all these seem to come from the same person/persons?

Did many of the intended recipients actually try to open them? My impression is that most were intercepted by authorities who had experts open them.
The ones that weren’t intercepted were reported to authorities by the recipients without being opened.

Most triggers do not go off by being “tossed around”. These were not nitroglycerin bombs. It’s not terribly difficult. I’ve looked up Kacziynski’s methods enough to know that, and the bomber certainly would have too if he was at all serious about this. If he used a timer, he didn’t really care if it reached it’s intended target or if there was collateral damage.

With my experience of their losing packages (one found three months later) and tearing holes in others, I don’t think having them handle and deliver explosives is a very good idea.
from what I recall the FBI did not have any leads that pointed to the unabomber. they only caught him due to his brother reading the manifesto and thinking it was him and calling the FBI.

Predictably, conservatives are refusing to acknowledge that their hostile and vitriolic rhetoric is playing a role in inciting real-world violence. The usual “both sides do it” tripe. This is, honest to goodness, why I quit Facebook and why I don’t miss it - or more specifically, why I don’t miss them. I don’t miss seeing posts from wacky shit-kicker relatives or ‘friends’ about George Soros-funded sex trafficking rings run out of pizza parlors, or whatever bullshit Alex Jones is peddling. And understand something: they’re not poor white working class who have fallen on hard times and need some sympathy and understanding. These are adults who are making conscious choices about how they view the world around them. It’s a choice they make: you could say they’re ignorant, but not because they can’t access the truth. They don’t want the truth. They want the truth to be whatever the hell they want it to be. They don’t want to give up their prejudices, because to do so means giving up their sense of superiority. They don’t want to change, they want YOU to change. They want others to live on THEIR terms, and if people resist, then they’d just as soon condemn them to hell for it. A lot of us don’t understand their mentality, but I’m telling you it’s fucking deadly. They’re not just friendly, harmless folk who live in the suburbs. What’s inside their heads will disturb you once you scratch beneath the surface.
I voted Dem all down the line and didn’t even bother checking any of the Reps’ credentials, for the first time ever as well. I suppose there are some ‘good’ Republicans out there but the Republican party as a whole needs to be taken out to the woodshed and punished severely.
Assuming the party can drive itself back up the cliff it has fallen over, I’m seeing being asked for the next twenty years (ala post WWI and WWII), “What did you do during the Trump Administration?”
