Wasn’t Booth reactivated by the Army? Can he really just tell them he has had enough and wants to go back to work on murders and be with his son? I am sure that there are lots of people who would rather be home with thier families after 7 months in combat who don’t get that chance.

Yeah, that was one of the many issues I had with this episode.

It was his choice, as I recall. Whether or not he could end it at any time once chosen is another matter. It seems unlikely.
