Check that trim!
There are times when the “boobs on the ground” line wouldn’t mark you as an asshole. This is not one of these times.
We can all agree that Rush Limbaugh is basically a completely horrible human being, right? Hypocritical, sexist, racist, idiotic, loud-mouthed, arrogant, scientifically illiterate and proud of it… Basically, “that one relative” everyone has to put up with at thanksgiving. So why is it more of a big deal when he goes off on another one of his rants than, say, uncle Jimbo?
Because millions of people get their news and opinions on news directly from his disgusting fat mouth. Remember the Sandra Fluke case? If he hadn’t lied for 7 straight days about what a slut she is, do you think the national conversation on birth control might have gone a little differently? These people, through their audience, have a responsibility. And when they pull shit like this, the message their audience gets is “it’s totally fine to be a misogynist piece of shit”. We don’t “give” FOX this power. Millions of Americans do, because the biases and prejudices that they adopt from the news help inform their actions.
What’s sad isn’t the juvenile humor, it’s the fact that when presented with a woman breaking new ground in a historically restrictive society, they can only come up with jokes instead of applauding the news.
This is what people aren’t getting. Google her name and read what she had to go through just to get where she is. She overcame so much, and she proved that women are the equal of men in the air. I’m glad she’s on our side in this.
Must be a short agenda for this week’s neighborhood Committee for the Perpetually Offended Tea and Social…
Did that divorcee not wear a skirt three inches above the knee again?
Well, they (the panel) did both. Are you saying it’s unacceptable to joke about women breaking new ground? I’ve never watched this show, but I suspect it is intended to me more like The View than The CBS News with Walter Cronkite.
Well, in this case the joking was tired and bigoted. It’s pretty much the equivalent of talking about a black pilot and making jokes like “it must be hard to fly a plane with a bucket of chicken between your legs.” It’s the kind of humor old white bigots find funny.
Nobody is complaining about the panelists who were supportive.
If you can make a joke that isn’t at the expense of the woman, attacking her with the very type of attitude that she needed to break ground against, go ahead.
“The ISIS fighters were especially upset because she was not properly chaperoned during the attack.” That’s a joke, something humorous, but not attacking her. There’s no call for attacking her, or insulting her.
It has the Fox News Channel logo on the bottom left, they should at least have a shred of dignity in their shows.
Well, that’s a nice rule you got there, but I don’t buy it. And I doubt any professional comedian would, either.
Now, that’s a good joke right there!!
As the Daily Show pointed out last night, this is the same network that was indignant that Obama disespected the troops by saluting with a coffee cup in his hand, then they took time out to openly mock the uniformed personnel of one of our allies as she risked her life to fight terrorists.
Just stop with the “I’ve never watched this show” schtick. Doesn’t fucking matter. It is on Fox NEWS. See, right there, it says NEWS. It doesn’t say Fox ENTERTAINING GABBLE, BUT MOSTLY BULLSHIT, although that may closer to accurate.
You can chuckle it off and say, “Oh it’s just like The View” if you want, but millions of righties watch Fox NEWS all day long, and they think it’s all real NEWS.
But, hey, it’s all good for chuckle, right? Female pilots, boob jokes, parking. HAHAHAHAHAHA
Yeah, that jab at Obama was ridiculous. The real scandal is that he was heading to a conference on Climate Change and he was using a disposable coffee cup!!!
[sub]Psst…post 18.[/sub]
You’re right. Millions of righties now think that the official description for female pilots is “boobs on the ground”. They won’t see it as a lame joke, but as NEWS. Maybe you should sue Fox for false advertising.
They’re not professional comedians, John Mace. They’re hosts on Fox News. They’re clowns, but they’re not paid to make jokes.
The View is a morning show. From their site: “The View is ABC Daytime’s morning chatfest, featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace discussing the most exciting events of the day. Hot topics in the news, the best experts in their field, celebrity interviews and general entertainment are all part of The View.” The Fox News show is The Five, which starts at 5 p.m. (get it?) and puts a lot more emphasis on the purported news. Read their sites and you’ll see different standards: “Eric Bolling […] is one of the seven rotating Fox personalities who discuss, debate and at times debunk the hot news stories, controversies and issues of the day.” Kimberly Guilfoyle is “a legal analyst.” They play up the credentials of all of these people (except Gutfield). You’re probably thinking of some other bullshit, like the Fox and Friends morning show. Offensive nonsense is offensive nonsense, of course, but this is not a morning chat thing. Please stop inventing lower standards to hold this show to.
I’d like to point out that Jon echoed my take on coffee cup gate vs. boobs, too. ![]()
Why should **John **start letting a minor detail like admitting not knowing what the fuck he’s talking about keep him from talking about it anyway?
It’s amazing. This comment would have been out of place in a work environment, yet it’s okay for some because it’s on the network, and was in jest ???
- “I made a joke and when I got home, I got the look,” Bolling said, referring to what happened after his comments aired on Wednesday. “I said sorry to my wife and I apologize to you all and want to make that very clear.”*

LOL, even his wife put him in line for that one. ![]()
True, it’s not a morning chat thing. It’s an afternoon chat thing.
“Looking to the ABC talk show “The View” and to the time of day as inspiration, [Fox Chairman Roger Ailes] pictured five co-hosts who could argue about the day’s top stories without feeling antipathy for one another.” - New York Times, 25 December 2011
