Bosda's father has died [updated title]

He fell last Thursady, around noon. Backed over the table & fell.
I found him at 3PM.

He went to the ER.
No broken bones.
But a lot of pain.

Endless labor by me.
Will post more later.

nm

He’s in pain, but not quite as bad. New pain meds.
Doctor’s office was supposed top have called a nursing service, but no callbacks yet. Dad’s insurance must get the doc’s clearance, through a listed sservice.

What does that mean?

He posted something, thought better of it, and edited it out. nm stands for “never mind”.

In the meantime, Bosda, you have all my sympathy. When I was taking care of my dad, he had a fall. Scared me silly. He refused to say he was in pain, so the ER doc put him in the hallway to wait four hours before treatment. By then, Dad was in a lot of pain and taking it out on me. At least in home care was easy to arrange, since he’s retired military.

Don’t forget to take care of yourself, and keep hanging in there.

I’m wore out.
His new pain pills are helping.
He’s sleeping in today.

Correct. Hope dad’s OK.

I’m glad to hear your dad’s home again. I’m hoping when you said he fell last Thursday and you found him at 3pm (today?) he wasn’t on the floor the whole time.

If you got him one of those “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” alarms, do you think he would use it? I thought about getting one for my mother in law, but I don’t think she would think it was an emergency if there was a brontosaurus in the kitchen.

I’ve had more of those days than I care to remember. And too many of them ended up with Dad in surgery. Broken shoulder. Separated pelvis. Cracked orbital rim.

Lots of fun.

I know how scary it can be…Not to minimize it at all - I really do understand, and feel for you. I’m glad this seems like more of an annoyance than an emergency.

I feel for you Bosda. My elderly mom falls. A lot. So far, she’s been lucky to only get a cracked rib that healed up on its own. Other than that, she’s made of rubber apparently.

I’m glad your dad’s on the mend.

Gah, Bosda. Sending healing thoughts your (dad’s) way. Keep your chin up. Many times the caregiver gets the wrath.

Today, he had a heart attack, compounded by the fact that he was lying to me about taking his diabetes meds.

He’s in Vandy Cardiac ICU, & I can’t get in to see him until tomorrow.

Damn. That was an unexpected upgrade of risk. At least it seemed like it on this side of the screen. Hope you get a chance to catch your breath.

Hugs and good thoughts, of course.

I’m glad your Dad wasn’t hurt badly. My Mom recently started having trouble with falls. I got her a cane with feet that stands by itself. She can’t bend over well and when the old cane fell on the floor she’d try to walk around without it.

Our home security company (CPI) gave us an “IFAICGU” alarm button for her to wear. Since we were renewing our contract they only charged the $95 installation fee. It’s given me some peace of mind. I just have to make sure she doesn’t leave it in her bedroom or roll on it when she’s on the couch.

Then there’s that “emergency” thing. When she had her 2nd (?) heart attack she was calling everybody but 911. Hopefully she’ll take being on the floor more seriously.

ETA:
Glad he survived the heart attack, too! I guess you’ll have to wait to confront him about the meds issue.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad, Bosda – it is possible that his insurance might cover respite care? Or even just a nurse to come in while you’re not home?

Dad has had another heart attack!

I was in the room with him, at Vanderbilt Hospital Cardiac ICU when it happened.

Ventricular tachycardia. His heart re-started on it’s own, but I had given a good shout, & the doctors & nurses flew to his side.

He needs a pacemaker, but the old so & so won’t get one!

My brother Andy & I are visiting in shifts.

We don’t spend all our time there, because Dad gets no rest.

I’ll go back to see him in the AM.

sorry to hear this - hope he is OK.

FUCK! That’s awful, Bosda :frowning: I’m so sorry :frowning:

FWIW – if you’re gonna have an MI, Vandy’s definitely one of the places to do it. Your dad’s definitely in some top-notch hands.

Is there anything any of us can do (seriously)?

I’m sorry that your dad is having all of the health problems, Bosda. PandaBear’s right about the care at Vandy though. If he has to have a heart attack, he’s in the right place.
