Hmmm, well, after reading that, and thinking of my own college day waitressing experiences, I don’t think I’ll be hungry that day.
Where and when is this get-together? I’ve been skimming the entries, and can’t find it.
Saturday, August 16, 7:00pm. The location is Boston Billiards in Kenmore Square near Fenway Park. It’s accessible by the T and there is free parking in back as well. (No Red Sox game that day.) The group went there last time and all reports were positive.
You do need the official aardvark recognition button to attend but those are really easy to come by
Or was it a secret aardvark handshake? Or was it aardvark milkshake? Nevermind me I’ll just slink back into the shadows, my work here is done
I actually tried one of them new KKDs and didn’t care for it either, but I figured mentioning it in conjuction with our soiree might get those who want/need to try them for themselves.
Oh, and if anyone wants to join me after the billiards, on the night of the 16[sup]th[/sup] there’s a midnight-to-dawn bike ride in Boston. The guy who leads the ride is an architect/historian and he takes the group around through different neighborhoods and shows off some of the interesting buildings (which are kinda hard to see at night, but it’s still fun). Last year we went through the Ted Williams Tunnel, which is probably not gonna happen this time.
Mmm, Krispy Kreme…cannot ruin my diet
But I’ll still make it for pool
No, I can’t say that I have. I’m not willing to drive that far for a donut. But, if they’re only that good fresh out of the oil…eh.
If you go to the Krispy Kreme in Medford, they hand out hot fresh glazeds as you’re waiting in line - by the time you get up to order, you might not even need to anymore! And you can watch Birth of a Donut - the machine is right there showing the lumps of dough being transformed into airy puffs of sugary goodness.
I’ve been there twice with the line out the door and it takes maybe 6 minutes to get to the cash register. It’s not bad at all. They usually have more people working behind the counter than customers, it looks like.
Unfortunately I have started the Atkins plan so KK is out for me for a while.
Aaaaaargh!
Earlier in this thread I mentioned that my birthday is this month. Well, I finally told MrValley about the Boston Dope gathering today. At which point he hemmed and hawed, until he finally admitted that he has scheduled a surprise dinner for me on the same evening!
So with great disappointment, I must say that I will be unable to make it. I have looked forward to meeting many of you, and I hope that there will be another occasion soon. (I was hoping to meet you all while tanookie still had a pregnant belly bigger than mine!)
Have a blast…and no one is allowed to go to Krispy Kreme since I can’t!
Oh, Lily, what a shame. Well, I mean about your not coming, not about the surprise dinner. How nice of your husband and Happy Birthday!
So at this point who is coming? Do we have a count anywhere? Does it matter?
What I’ve got mentally is:
Pammipoo
Davebear
Tanookie and Parallax
Lorene
Robot Arm
Lux Fiat
And I think Amberlei might have said in another thread she was coming? How about Cal Meacham, GodzillaTemple and there were a few others that expressed an interest I think. Am I missing people?
And Wyatt? Wasn’t Wyatt going to come to lie prostate at Dave’s feet? I mean Wyatt’s so cool and all,
BUT…
Sorry you won’t be there, Lil. But, happy birthday! In fact, it’s my brithday this month, too.
I may have to swing by Krispy Kreme. I’ll have a couple hours to kill before the bike ride (and it sounds like I’m on my own for that), and a little extra energy wouldn’t hurt.

Oh, Robot Arm, I meant to respond to that, too. I would love to [sub]have the strength and energy to[/sub] ride along [sub]without fearing for my life [/sub] but just don’t think that would be possible [sub]without expiring[/sub] due to time [sub]of death[/sub] constraints and other obligations[sub]like breathing [/sub] and such.
I’ll come. Sorry I haven’t been very helpful planning, but I have trouble reading these threads.
It’s not a strenuous ride at all. Last year it was only about 20 miles. One person did it on a Razor scooter, someone else was on rollerblades. The guy who leads the ride will go a couple miles and then stop and wait for everyone to catch up (the group would get seperated at traffic lights and such), and then talk about that neighborhood and show some of the interesting buildings, and then ride another couple miles.
It was maybe 100 people at the start. Most of them dropped out along the way, but I’m sure they weren’t tired from the ride, just from staying up so late.
I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea. But last year there were some interesting places I’d never seen before, and I watched the sun come up from Fort Independence; I had a great time.
I’m lucky I can walk and putting on my shoes is an olympic event! Sorry but I don’t care if it is a 2 mile ride… ain’t no way this chick is biking/rollerblading/scootering 2 feet
I was just curious if Tanookie or the munchkin (or Parallax for that matter) have tried the Monopoly cereal and is it any good? It looked good but we had enough cereal and BamBam tends to drool melted goo out of his mouth if we feed him anything with marshmallows in it.
I have two boxes in my cabinet… truthfully I wasn’t all that impressed… a bland version of cinnamon toast crunch with marshmallows.
I will however be hacking up those precious boxes for my monopoly scrapbook
Don’t hack them up! They’ll be much more valuable, someday, intact. Assuming there’s ever a market for them, at all.
Oh, and I may have a good reason to miss the Dopefest. I’ll let ya know.
I’m not collecting for the resale value … I’m collecting to make myself happy.
