Uh … to quote Bittersweet, Dave, Just buy me the plane tickets and I am So There!!!
But, I have a hunch® that when it comes to Dave buying plane tickets … just a hunch, mind you … but I’m thinkin’ that Wyatt’s “Cool and Everything” would get out ranked by BitterSweet’s “Way Hot and Stuff.”
Stuff is always important!
Really wish I COULD be there, though. You Boston Dopers are the aardvarkianest!
No time to post a full recap now, for reasons which will be obvious in a minute.
“When come, bring pie,” so I did.
I do not know a good trade when I see one.
We set a new record for the smallest attendance at a 'fest (2). The record was broken two hours later at the midnight-to-dawn bike ride, with only one doper present.
Sorry your fest was a bust, y’all! With ours (this coming Saturday), it’s “so far, so good” with 8 people confirming, so me and mouthreather are keeping our fingers crossed.
Oh Robot Arm, about that record? You may wanna check in with Earl Snake-Hips Tucker. His had even less attendance.
You know, I’ve backed out of a couple of meets myself and my reason was that I got cold feet because of my age, so I sure don’t have any room to talk if people cancel out on ours, but I wonder if we are so comfortable here on SDMB because we’re basically invisible, and a Dopefest kinda threatens that comfort a little? Just a thought…
From what Davebear wrote, there were a lot of sick chillun, and that’s a reason to bow out if there ever was one. With mine, it’s the cost of the evening and other constraints that are affecting attendance. Again, not pointing fingers ('cause I would have to point one right at myself), but these things are a real challenge to organize, I have found, and my sympathies to all of y’all who’ve tried and have had no or poor attendance.
I could not have come this far without mouthbreather’s help, that’s for sure, and I appreciate him for it.
Take a look at our thread and you’ll see his willingness to bring ours about.
Just a thought: Were y’all okay with power up there?
BostDopers, your next outing will be better. I’m convinced of it.
You know, I would have just ditched the sick kid if Wyatt was going to be there, BUT…
Glad Munchkin is feeling better, tanookie. Mine went from that half asleep, laying in your lap thing to I’m feeling just better enough to be a complete crank. But he’s better now.
How’s baby lorene?
Well, dave and Robot, glad you guys at least had fun and pie. How was the midnight bike ride? Quasi, hope all goes well for you guys.
I’m sure we’ll have better luck next time. We’ll pick a healthier month.
Baby is somewhat better, although still not back to her old self. At least, I hope this new crankster isn’t her new self. Anyhow, she seems to be in and out of tummy troubles, not at all helped by the fact that, from the looks of things, daycare stuffed her chock full of raisins on Friday. (That’s all I’m gonna say about THAT).
We need a BostonDoperMommies club. Then we could get together and let children run themselves ragged and pass along various germs as kids are wont to do while the mommies get to talk about Grown-Up-Stuff ™
Maybe with enough fresh air and sunshine they’d sleep well that evening
Turns out a Dopefest, even one with only 2 people in attendance, would have been a heck of a lot more fun than my weekend at my cousin’s wedding. Sorry I missed it…
And … the point here was? … that, since would be a “mommies” group … you wouldn’t have DaveBear, RobotArm and possiblyWyatt who, all three, talk about such UNgrown up stuff??? Hummmm???
No Wyatt… the point was that for us parents… it is difficult to schedule time without the kids and inflicting kids on childless people is not always a popular thing… so an event where you can bring your kids and let them be kids someplace nearby while you sit in the shade with cool drinks and other adults is more fun than it sounds. Trust me your outlook on things changes a lot with kids!
I had lots of fun at the fest I got to go to! Out of the house, interesting company, a variety of conversation, good food… except my sitter bailed and I ended up with kid in tow. She’s a lovely child when she wants to be but she is still 2. Not quite a scintillating conversationalist and quite a messy eater…
I don’t think I have ever been to the Stoneham Zoo. I wonder if their Aardvark is named Nomaar?
