Stoopid job…I can’t take time off AND I have to be awake at my desk. Poo.
Well, someone lift a Mudslide for me!

Wait, WHY do you have to be awake and all? I mean, I can see why you have to BE there…but AWAKE? That’s just slavery…
Sounds good to me. What’s a night away from home without some ghostly howling, I always say.
I’m in Maine, but Boston’s not too far. Depending on event details I may or may not be able to come, but if it’s at all possible I will do my best to be there!
Two things, first this deserves a good ol’ bump for some who may not have seen this.
Second, while I am all set wit the date (I took the night off), I would like to take a motion to reconsider the meeting at The Union Oyster House (TUOH). The date + time are perfect, there is no Red Sox game in Fenway that day and no event at the Boston Garden, so there will not be a huge glut of people in the city. TUOH, to me, seems expensive and touristy. I’d say the same thing about most of those restaurants/bars in the area including the Purple Shamrock and Henneseys. I would suggest Durgin Park (again), Boston Beer Works, The Kinsale Irish Pub, Pizzeria Uno- Faneuil Hall, or Rock Bottom.

Okay, I should have made my sample menu display from the top down and not from the bottom up. It seems that my quest to show proof for pricey-ness really didn’t show too much difference. Just when I first glanced at the menu I didn’t take into account that a lot of the entrees are meals that don’t fit into the salad/cheeseburger/chicken variety, making the place look more expensive than it really is.
But my original point stands! Touristy! Any others in favor of trying someplace else.
Feel free to jump all over me and deny this request. We could be going to Anna’s Taqueria and I’d still hang with you guys, and I hate Mexican food!
Or Hooters. Never count out Hooters.
I’d gladly try someplace else. Durgin Park, however, was not air conditioned and that was somewhat uncomfortable last time (at least for me—I’m a delicate flower
) Also, the long, rectangular table made conversation with more than 3 people (right side, left side, across the table) difficult.

You’re very sweet, ya Big Baby! I will, of course, be open to people talking me out of my pickiness, but since no one has shown up yet to do so, I’ll go with your list of possibilities.
Even Hooters.
Good news! Looks like I’ll be able to pay for my own lobster, after all!
Woo-hoo!
If you guys can wait until August 20th, I should be back in Boston by then
Well, I’m not officially a Bostonian. Mind if a Shrewsburian comes on down?
(I couldn’t make it last year on account of being down at URI and working my fanny off on a thesis. It’s done, the school year ends on Monday, and I see no reason not to go to Boston and raise a cold one with some Dopers!)
Hell, I just finished my dissertation and will be leaving Cambridge at the end of July… so why the hell not? I like the idea of a Boston landmark, versus a chain like Uno’s or Rock Bottom…
For some reason I read July 11th as June 11th and then began to panic thinking I’d just missed it.
Duh.
I’m up for wherever. I might have to show up semi-late, like 7 ish depending on how long it takes me to drive back from Plymouth and catch the T in. (I live in Quincy Adams), but no biggie. I’ll just have to tell the host/ess that I’m with the Doper group.
Auto I’m sad you’re not gonna make it. We should do a Part II when you are back in town.
I searched to see if you mentioned this elsewhere but couldn’t find anything. Is there some good news?
I think so, yes. I got a “soft offer” late yesterday from my first choice company. They’ve spoken with at least one of my references and most of my background investigation elements have come in, so they intend to extend a formal offer.
I’ll post more about it when it firms up, and I don’t want to “jinx” anything by talking oo much about the job.
:: whew ::
We will most definitely do a Part II. With Auto there, I’ll doubt we’ll remember much of it, though.
I’m not married to Durgin Park. lorene’s objections are quite valid. The problem is finding a place with round tables rather than long rectagular ones. That may be tough. But let’s consider Chinese places. Ocean Pearl is a great place, if you don’t mind not being able to park anywhere within 3 miles of it.
I may be able to pop in, work/school depending. Put me down for a definite maybe.
I’ve always loved that saying.
Just popping in to say LOOK, we made the front page!
Oh sure, I finally find this thread (thanks, lorene) and you have to pick the one week of the entire year that I may be out of the state. The plans aren’t completely firmed up yet, but July 11 is smack dab in the middle of the target dates for going to visit my daughter and new grandson (eek! yes, we’re both too young for this) in North Carolina.
I’ll get to another one of these at some point…within forty years or so. But if I don’t end up going to NC that week, I would love an excuse to trip into Boston. Haven’t been in quite awhile and it would be great to finally meet some of the people behind the names I’ve seen for years. Seems the list of Boston Dopers has grown quite a bit. We’ve always been so good at [sub]not[/sub] getting together. But we make great plans. And that’s something we can all stand up and be proud of. Or at least we can plan to stand up or, hey, go ahead and sit down. Have a seat. Relax. Have another cup of coffee. We can get around to standing later.
