bowlegged lesbians, "niglets" and "You people"

Twelve states require, under most circumstances, the consent of all parties to a conversation. Those jurisdictions are California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. http://www.rcfp.org/taping/

Sorry Tibs didn’t realize Illinois was one of the 12…

Texas allows taping of private conversations between two individuals w/out consent of BOTH parties, my mistake.:frowning:

Nah! Not a big deal. I appreciate everyone’s concern and suggestions.

You’re welcome, I sincerely meant it. If it weren’t for people who offer as much tolerance as they expect, I would be one ignorant heterosexual, surburban, middle-class, white girl. And I would probably be offending people left and right and not understanding why everybody avoids me. I grew up in an environment where racial, etc, misconceptions, slurs, and intolerance were more or less the norm, and I have been happy over the years to learn differently. But I’ve only been able to do so because people who were mysteriously different from me were tolerant of my ignorance and (probably) stupid questions.

I’m sure Esprix has given you great advice, but I must say that I’m sorry I live in a world where someone has to report me to the authorities for unknowingly offending them, or where people are upset with my behavior but are more comfortable talking about it with each other than with me. I’m sorry ignorance has to be dealt with punitively. No matter what anyone says, HR having to talk with someone about their ignorance of diversity will be a black mark on that person’s record, and hard feelings will follow.

LOL!

 You’d better tell that to all those people who call themselves queer.

I’m assuming here that she’s a white lady, but the term ‘niglet’ almost has to be a direct slur. to the best of my knowledge it has never had any use but as a racial slur, and was intended to be demeaning. Negro, Colored, and perhaps even darkie could be said to have been regional terms used for identification of racial background, and might simply be interpreted as ‘black’ if it were in context.

I’ve never heard the term ‘niglet’ outside of White Power literature. I know people who will regularly use the word ‘nigger’ in describing a black person in a demeaning way, and they wouldn’t go so far as to call black children ‘niglets’.

i’m just wondering how come i dont know any lesbians in person ?

i dont live in some redneckville, i live in NewYork. i have been hit on by gay men, and i have seen numerous other men who are gay beyond a shadow of doubt.

but i haven’t seen any women that i knew are lesbian. is there any explanation for this?

( i am a straight guy by the way )

how can you even tell if a girl is a lesbian ? likewise can you ( question for the lesbian ladies ) tell if a man is gay ? or do you have a similar problem

Well, if she starts fucking other women, I think that’s a pretty good indicator.

Niglets!!! As a black 14-year old, this really gets to me… bitch.

So, tell us how it ended, Tibs?

Robin

Tiburon, if you haven’t already done something about the comments, I am a trained mediator for my work organisation and HR staff get the same training as me. We have an ‘early conflict resolution’ guideline and it states that in the first instance, you should go to the person and explain why you were not happy/upset with what they said. If you need support, someone can go with you, but they mustn’t do any of the talking.
So I think your initial thoughts on how to deal with it were spot on and Esprix - we wouldn’t recommend you handle it this way, however, going to HR is always an option.
BTW - these kinds are comments are not unusual in my experience but I work mostly with young adults - maybe that’s the difference?

Oh my GOD, do you ever rule. Beautiful. Poetic, even.

Ahh, how did it end.

Well, something somewhat on target came up in our office and I told another one of the attorneys. We then told our boss, the chief. He held an office meeting where we were all present and talked about what was appropriate in the office and what wasn’t. She hasn’t made a comment since. My boss handled it very well.

p.s. I’ll address the other questions in a bit.

You live in Brooklyn and think every female that you know is straight? :dubious:
I doubt that every woman that you know are all female.

Hama says I rule. That rules!

t-keela brooklyn is cool.

i dont think every woman is straight but i can’t tell which ones aren’t. as opposed to men, when its usually obvious when one is gay.

of the girls that i talked to, maybe half of them would not mind having sex with other women … but that only makes them bisexual.

i guess in my mentality there is no such thing as a bisexual guy, if a guy can even think of kissing another guy he’s fucking GAY and should stay away from me. on the other hand for a girl the difference between being gay and bi is quite substantial as far as i am concerned ( for obvious reasons i think ).

I have no doubt that some aspects of Brooklyn are cool…but I feel that some members at this board might feel your post is not.

BTW even some of us “rednecks” know better than to assume you can determine a person’s sexual preference by their appearances.

Yet, I don’t want another man sticking his tounge (or anything else) down my throat either…

Oh, really? Please - enlighten us.

Wow - your insights are truly remarkable. Please, share more of your astounding knowledge with us…

Man, this was a great string. I’m a black man (of diverse ethnic heritage-I’m human gumbo) down in the south, and it surprised me to see some of the unfamiliarity with racist lingo in the thread. Actually, it was kind of heartwarming. However, if you want to be aware of the racists around you, you have to know their lingo. Listen for such terms for blacks as: nigger, coon, niglet, jigaboo, mooncrickets, darkie, Alabama porch monkeys, bats, mammy, Uncle Tom, spade, and so, so many others. Latinos dislike the terms: spic, greaser and wetback. Native Americans dislike being called: Redskin, chief, red, brave, squaw, and so forth.

And the language of hate goes on. There are of course, offensive terms for people of all countries (micks), religions (papists) ethnicities (honkie), sexual preferences (breeders) and backgrounds (pigs). Given current events, don’t be surprised to hear the terms sand niggers or ragheads to refer to persons from the Middle East.

I say these things only to raise awareness, not to insult. Knowlege is a weapon, and it pays to know who is harboring hate in their hearts.

Why sure … if they’re boys, or boys and girls in a group. If they’re just girls ya call 'em chicklets. ::ducks and runs for cover::
