Bracing for the holidays in the MMP

Happy Saturday!

It’s cloudy and supposed to be in the mid 40s today. I hope that means the rest of the snow will melt.

I woke up too early, so I think there will be a nap later today.

Cat is home again. I think he has another home somewhere else. I should put his collar back on him as it has our phone number on it and maybe his other family will call me. I don’t mind sharing him with the neighbors as long as they are good to him and he is happy.

It’s going to be a busy but boring day today, or at least I hope it is boring. Lots of stuff to do around here.

That’s pretty cool Nuts that you don’t have to pay back the loan until you make over a certain amount. My son’s money goes straight to the school as well, then after everything is paid he gets the leftover deposited into his checking account. I think Pell Grants used to go straight to the student but not anymore. I know a number of people who would get the money and then drop out of school.

Have a safe trip** FCM**.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, towels in teh wash and puppy crate cleaned. I’m fixing to take a shower, go to Lowe’s, head up to Mount Juliet to pick up a few things and come home to get the yard cleaned up. Excitement! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sis, BIL and puppers will be here tonight. They’re about 100 miles north of Houston right now.

Gee Mmmoooommmmm. Just now reading of the InLaw Woes. Here’s hoping everything gets worked out and she gets home soon.

Sunny over 1000missing? That’s horrible. The whole situation is horrific.

Howdy all. Went out to pick up some stuff and eat out (Olive Garden). Got back about 20 minutes ago and there are four (4!) cop cars and the Madison County coroner outside. Apparently the interest is in the house directly across from me, but I didn’t know the folks there at all so I’m keeping a low profile. Don’t know what happened but with the coroner present it probably isn’t good.

So a relatively nice (62F) N.O.S. day is somewhat darker.

Red, hope your family members have a safe trip. I leave Wednesday for my brothers. He’s lost one of his Bassets, but the other two, my niece’s Mastiff, and my nephew’s 6-month old bloodhound should provide enough canine companionship.

Sunny, glad pup is doing well, agree she needs to be with the larger pups. And stay safe, y’hear.

Howdy Y’all! I cleanded collard greens and prepped for cookin’. I also made three cast iron skillets of cornbread. We went and grabbed a burger and a beer at the little place just up the road. Sup shall be whatever is at da cave and appeals. Also, nappage got achieved.

Only a single puppy left. Lord, a single puppy makes a lot of noise. I think she is to go today or tomorrow.

Of all the things you have talked about cooking or baking, collard greens is the only one I don’t care for. I will, however, have a large slab of cornbread!

The man makes >>shudder<< …succotash!

Mrs. Plant (v.2.0) who likes any food that is expensive, enjoyed grape leaves stuffed with ground beef I made. I begin experimenting with other leaves, including collards, and she enjoyed them, not knowing it was a food of the poor Southerner.

What inspired your Facebook star of David?

I’ve found that leafy vegetables are more appealing if they are merely gotten hot and wilted. I believe collard greens are usually boiled for quite some time with ham or pieces of pork. What is your recipe, Swampy?

So what we have here is the RustingRat trying to create an alibi by telling us he was at lunch?
I wanna see a receipt, from a credit card in your name.

So oranges, bananananas, apples, right?

Are you sufferin’ when you eat succotash, Sylvester? :stuck_out_tongue:
Lookin’ at the pix I shot earlier. Gonna make dinner soon & then (hopefully) an early bed time as it’s Hell Week. (Three of the next 5 days are 4amish wakeup calls. :()

I was listening to an item on drag queens on the radio today.

((Moooooooom))

I’ve got a few more things to do today.

Shopping - done.

Bessie - back in the barn.

Doing a double tomorrow so chill mode is in operation.

I didn’t get near as much done as I wanted to.
I made a bigger mess for myself because sometimes cleaning up one thing means messing up something else until you get it all together.
I had a bag of clothes in the back of my closet that was supposed to be donated to charity. I was cleaning out more clothes a few weeks ago and a friend asked me to give them to her and she would give what ever she didn’t want to charity. I pulled the bag out of the closet to add what was in the box for her and now that I have lost a mess of weight I can wear those clothes again. I’m still getting rid of a bunch of them but now my closet is full again and I don’t have enough hangers.

metal mouse, have a good trip and give your brother’s pack some skritches.

Yay for finding homes for most of the puppies flytrap

I got most of the stuff I went after picked up except the purse. When I stopped at Ross, it was packed, had only one cashier and a checkout line to the back of the store. Nunh-unh! I also didn’t get the car washed or the yard cleaned. That’s stuff I can do tomorrow after Sis and BIL leave for Dad’s. I swung through Fat Mo’s for a burger and was in the drive thru line for twenty minutes without moving. when the car behind me backed out, so did I. The cheap Chinese is in the same shopping center, so supper is some house special soup and an aig roll. Prolly better for me anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

sincerely hope things work out for yall fcfamily
I lived in a southern born and raised foster family (they were senior citizens ) that moved to ca after ww2 and I learned 3 things I will never eat again 1 okra 2 collard mustard ect greens 3 rutabaga

Collards are the yum. We just had rutabaga the other day. Also love some Okra anyway it’s cooked. Gotta have greens on Thanksgiving. No two ways about it.

I wish Mooomm would let us know how everyone is.

flytrap collards do not need to be boiled forever. Indeed, no veggie needs that. I do use hamhock, or a couple chunks of ham if’n that’s what I have on hand. I fill a smallish stock pot about a quarter full of water and drop in the ham. Let it come to an almost boil and then add the greens. The greens will begin to wilt fast. I don’t so much as boil as simmer them (turn the heat down) for thirty to forty minutes. They come out perfect. Some folks think collard greens have a strong taste (they do but I like 'em that way) and may add a teaspoon of sugar to the water when it gets to the almost boil point. Also, I like to cook 'em the day before and reheat ‘em before chowin’ down. While they’re good freshly cooked, when they set (sit?) overnight they seem to have a better flavor to me.

shades do not diss the Pod of God! :dubious:

Too bad I paid in cash, then (but I do have an airtight alibi source).

swampy, 'fraid I’m with friend Shady, those Southern greens just don’t appeal to me.

Sari, I’ve noticed that too; cleaning up or getting rid of stuff in one place makes another more crowded; I think we have Dr. Schrodinger to blame…

Order 6 books on-line for my Xmas present to myself. Now need to grill burger with cheese for my evening repast.

Indeed, Sir!

Mama Plant cooked horrible things. Okra boiled (!) to death, spinach boiled to death, chicken pot pies with raw crust. Tuna casserole with oily, soggy potato chips.
Okra grilled, or as tonight, fried a bit in olive oil, is good stuff.
