A Taco Bell near me once had a breakfast menu (it was a 24 hour one that was near a Fedex hub)- I can’t recall most of what was on it, but I do remember they had these awesome breakfast burritos in a soft taco shell with sausage, peppers, potatoes, etc…yummy.
I have seen a Wendy’s with a breakfast menu, but it’s not a regular Wendy’s. It shares a building with a gas station just off Interstate 24, so I can see why it might when regular Wendy’s stores wouldn’t.
And when they used to deep fry the fries in lard not vegetable oil?
Seventh Avenue in NYC had a Wendy’s opposite Penn Station in the mid-1980’s that served breakfast. I remember tater tots, but other than that, I got nothin’.
(And I don’t recall those tater tots very fondly.)
Wendy’s stopped serving breakfast? This must have been fairly recently. They certainly served breakfast a few years ago. And according to sciurophobic, they did this morning.
I seem to remember them having French Toast sticks. I do not know why as I’ve never had them, but I seem to remember a Wendy’s with a sign that said something about French Toast sticks.
Oh - vertizontal - they had BISCUITS AND GRAVY??? I was not TOLD!!
On a related note, the McDonald’s on NW Hwy near the racetrack by me used to have a breakfast buffet on the weekend’s - they had a little of everything - all you can eat. And they had biscuits and gravy. The buffet has been gone for a long time, though - it was great back then cause we could feed everyone in the family (me, my ex, the three kids) for real cheap.
Burger King had (has?) french toast sticks. Wendy’s has always had biscuit sandwiches and biscuits and gravy. They’ve had them as long as I can remember, and I don’t remember them ever not having them.
There’s a Wendy’s less than a mile from my house that began serving breakfast about two years ago, but as far as I recall, that only lasted a few months. And the one time I tried it, I was deeply disappointed. I don’t know how you screw up a “breakfast bowl” that only has eggs and ham and cheese in it, but it was not worth whatever the price was.
For what it’s worth, when I worked at McDonald’s (1998-2000), apple pies were the only constant. The second flavor changed every month or so. So we had pumpkin in the fall, even custard in the winter. Cherry was in the spring or summer, I’m thinking.
Also, one of the best side benefits of any job I had was when the boss would let us take home all the extra pies at the end of the night when we closed. I would always ‘accidentally’ make an extra batch or so before closing time.
I think a lot of restaurants do that. I know in high school, one of my friends who worked at Pizza Hut would input an order for a couple of pizzas just before closing time, but no one ever came to pick them up, so they were up for grabs.
Mmm, stolen pizza.
Last year, when my husband and I went to GenCon, we stayed in a CrapAss Motel that was practically next door to a Wendy’s. That Wendy’s is the only one I’ve ever seen that served breakfast. We found it remarkably underwhelming.
Breakfast at Wendy’s? Wasn’t that the Capote novella that was made into a movie in the 60s with Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard?
Reporting in. The Wendy’s near my house is now serving breakfast. There was an insert in the newspaper about breakfast sandwiches on some kind of flatbread, like a biscuit but not crumbly. The location is on a massive commuter route, but on the wrong side of the road.
I remember when Wendy’s first experimented with serving breakfast (in my area anyway), circa 1983-86. I was a resident back then, and on occasion would cruise thru there to get a sandwich on the way to morning rounds. They had made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, and I don’t remember what else.
It didn’t last long, and I remember one magazine article on the “Wendy’s failed breakfast experiment” or words to that effect, after the fact.
They used to, years ago. Most gave it up. The only Wendy’s that I’ve seen that still serves breakfast is in Calverton, MD on Powder Mill Road off Rte. 95. Their breakfast sucks, but I have noticed that their employees are willing to make my Spicy Chicken sandwich pretty much anytime (not burgers, though). That almost makes up for this.
Wendy’s in my area (central NC) are serving breakfast. I got a biscuit there a month or two ago and it was terrible.
True, but the commercial with the Soviet fashion show was genius! Here’s the youtube clip.
Whenever I’m visiting family in Rio, I always hit a Micky D’s at least once in order to enjoy the lost pleasure deep-fried pies – they still deep-fry all of their pies there. They also season the burgers better. Much of South-American soda is still made with cane sugar, so you can have a true classic Coke with your meal.
Of course, then I have to put up with the bozos who say “You went all the way to Brazil and you ate McDonalds?!?”
Oh, lord, the “Super Bar”… I think I had stopped working there by then. It really looked like it complicated the salad bar setup something fierce. I always wondered if the New Orleans/Metairie area Wendy’s franchises were different than elsewhere in the country because they were all owned by that one guy at the time. We didn’t have a lot of the menu items that other Wendy’s in other parts of the country did back then.
So why did they give up on the original salad bar, anyway? And why not bring it back now?
I suppose it wasn’t profitable back in the late 70’s. But now, with all the concern about diabetes and obesity , Wendy’s could use their salad bar to advertise that they are the only healthy fast-food chain.
