Joking aside, what’s of interest to me about all this is that it’s not just outsiders who were unaware that Omar died two years ago. Senior leadership of the Taliban itself was also unaware of it.
This is part of what fuels some of the squabbling over succession now, in that his appointed successor is blamed for keeping it a secret.
