Breaking - The Queen is unwell (has died): 8 Sep 2022

She didn’t use it in Scotland, but was wearing a different uniform then. Still, I suspect it was functional rather than decorative.

I saw a bunch of other royals too: Peter Phillips and his kids, Mike Tindall, one of Gloucester’s daughters (Lady Rose Gilman) and her family, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Lady Helen Taylor and her husband, the Earl and Countess of St Andrews, Lord Nicholas Windsor, and some other people I’m used to seeing on the balcony at Trooping the Color but would have trouble identifying by name.

The Duke of Kent was there too; he is on the very short list of people now alive who participated in the last British monarch’s funeral, as he walked behind the coffin with the other royal dukes at the funeral of George VI in 1952.

I assume all living former Presidents and their wives are invited to the memorial service in Washington, DC as a courtesy.

Who are the uniformed guys taking over the vigil?

Never mind. They’re already gone. In modern military uniforms. Only standing for about 15 minutes.

Nobody does.

That shot of all the fair-skinned, mostly blond/e people all in black was like a Victorian painting. You know more of these names than I do, but for the record, Edward and Sophie’s children are Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn. They’ll be in tomorrow’s vigil with William, Harry and the other grandchildren. There’s a good chance that Louise will become the Pippa of this.

Which of the royal grandchildren will be standing vigil besides William & Harry? Beatrice & Eugenie? Peter & Zara? Ate Prince Edward’s kids too young?

The announcement was that all eight, including William/Harry, Beatrice/Eugenie, Peter/Zara, and Louise/James, would participate.

Louise is 18 and James is 14, so they’re plenty old enough.

I love how it all balances out. Eight grandchildren; two per child. Charles: two boys. Anne: boy, girl. Andrew: two girls. Edward: girl, boy.

When they show an aerial shot of “the snake” (the zig-zag-fenced area outside the church), I’ve started pinpointing a red or otherwise unusually-colored coat (coral, aqua) and trying to follow it along the trail. Other times I’ve noticed someone, like the young woman with brown hair and green fringe/bangs, first just outside the door, then filing past the coffin. It’s mesmerizing, the way Olympic kayaking is.

The article linked by @Rilchiam a few posts above gives the 8 grandkids’ names and their positions:
“The emotional vigil will last 15 minutes, with the Prince of Wales at the head of the coffin and the Duke of Sussex at the foot.
Zara Tindall and Peter Philips will either side of the Prince of Wales, while Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie will be either side of Prince Harry.
Lady Louise and James Viscount Severn will be at the middle of the coffin, opposite one another.”

And this article says that none of the spouses of the married grandchildren will attend:

@Rilchiam where are they showing the aerial shots?

Thanks. For some reason I thought they’d be split up into 2 groups of 4.

gkster BBCWorld. I haven’t taken the upstairs TV off that channel since this started.

alphaboi, that’s what I thought too. Three, one, three, one seems odd.

I think what it’s going to be is

William at the head, Harry at the foot and then
(W ) Peter James Eugenie (H) on one side and
( W) Zara Louise Beatrice ( H) on the other

which doesn’t seem strange to me.

Same here 2 groups of four.

It is lovely that they all want to stand for their gran.

The ones I saw were the heads of the army and RAF. The other ones looked like navy and perhaps Royal Marines, but I didn’t get a good view of them.

Thanks! Welcome aboard this Ship of Fools. :slightly_smiling_face: :wave:t4:

I can’t seem to find what time the grandchildren’s vigil will be. Anybody know?

It has really cleared out at Westminster. Wonder what is happening. Perhaps a refreshing of everything?

So far they have only said the grandchildren will have a 15 minute vigil Saturday night.

Whatever is happening, all that’s being shown on the live feed is the hammerbeam ceiling of Westminster Hall.
