I think those that work in that field, sadly, have plenty of experience in this area and can tell when time is almost up.
From what I recall about this experience with my own family members, there is a measurable process of internal organs “shutting down” that is widely understood to be indicative of imminent demise?
It sounds like he was in Germany when the events started, and he indeed had to travel the longest distance.
Based on my own experience and my sister who is a hospice doctor that’s more or less the case. Death can be a process, it’s seldom instantaneous. Doctors can’t give a precise time line but there are events that mark deterioration. Particularly if the queen has declined further medical interventions beyond “keep me comfortable” there might be a progression at work that can be reasonably expected to end in death in a day or two at most.
Or they’re waiting until everyone is present to turn off life support machines.
We don’t really know much at this point.
Besides the fact that Queen Elizabeth is the most amazingly gracious lady – the very embodiment of royalty – she has been Queen since 1953. That’s long enough that most of us can recall no other British monarch. King George VI means nothing to me except that if I find his image on a coin, I know that the coin is very, very old! Her passing will truly be the end of an era, and, I fear, the beginning of a much less distinguished one.
The consensus on reddit is that she probably passed at least a couple of hours ago, and that the plans for revealing her death basically call for letting the news out slowly in this sort of manner. The reporters seem to know she’s dead and are trying not to let it slip.
Edit: on the other hand, per the plan they’re supposed to announce it at 6pm London time, which was a half hour ago, so they presumably would have announced it about a half hour ago.
Just now on CNN: The Queen has passed.

It will be a passing of an era, but all eras pass.
And so it has.
Yep, NBC confirming she has passed.

Yes, Harry (with Meghan) was in Düsseldorf two days ago to promote the Invictus Games that happen there next year. I don’t know here he spent the next day, but he was in Europe anyway.
The queen is dead.
[Ninja’d, of course]
Not a Royal watcher, per se, but still surprisingly saddened.

Just now on CNN: The Queen has passed.

The queen is dead.
Well, time to grab one of my old Smiths LPs.
Seems the live feed of BBC Radio have crashed. Does anyone have a clip of the moment the death was announced in the UK?
For those who don’t have CNN on cable (or don’t have cable) the live stream is currently free on the CNN home page.

The queen is dead.
God save the King.
(got the feeling he’s really gonna need it…)
The Queen is dead, Long live the King.

Nope. It seems to be swamped. And I have bus-driving to do too.
Is it King Charles III or King George VII?
Working fine for me.

Long live the King.
He’s 73 and clearly has longevity in his genes, but still, it probably won’t be all that long.
