Brett Favre go away!

Tampa will probably have to give up a second round pick for Favre. Even if Minnesota offers a first round pick for him, what does that gain Tampa? Minnesota with Favre is likely to be a top 10 team at worst, so basically Tampa moves up ten or fifteen slots in the draft, irritates their fans who will now have to watch Jeff Garcia stumble his way through another season, and pissess off Ted Thompson and Packer nation.

Now remember, the Bucs went 9-7 last year with a terrible situation at QB. If Favre is good, they could go 12-4.

The Vikings would have to offer the moon, and I don’t think they will (or should).

If Rogers fails and Bret is gone ,how screwed are the Packers. Rogers has proven nothing. Bret would be the best option for this season but the worst for the future. I am glad I don’t run that team. It could be a lose ,lose. Then if Bret lights it up elsewhere the criticism would be huge.

Either way, if Favre goes to Tampa then Jeff Garcia is going to want out of there, which puts him on the market. I’m praying that the Bears GM has already made that phone call…

When I saw 12-4 for the Bucs, I thought, “What?”

But, looking at the Bucs relatively easy schedule, that might actually be possible.

They’ve got the NFC North and AFC West in rotation.

Very winnable games against ATL (twice), DEN, CAR (twice), KC, DET, and OAK. I’m not sure about the Saints, but they’re also on the schedule twice.

The only very tough games are San Diego and Dallas.

Schedule

The trade would be constructed with conditions that would royally screw Tampa if that happened. Say the original deal is for a 3rd rounder that could escalate to a 1st depending on a bunch of performance factors (games played, won, playoffs, etc.)

Added to that would be a “If you trade Favre to an NFC north team, we get your next 10 first round picks” clause. Or something to that effect. NFL contracts are very legalese oriented. Take a look at Steve Hutchinson’s contract with Minnesota sometime, and the counter contract Seattle gave to Nate Burleson.

I also highly doubt that the Vikings would be willing to pay a lot fro Favre. They have a staunch defensive and a great running game, they just need a game manager, not a gunslinger.

ESPN seems to think it is done. Bucs get Bret. They are debating how well he and Gruden can get along. Talking a draft choice.

That sucks. I really wanted him to run out onto Lambeau in a Vikings jersey on opening night.

Oh well, we still get to watch Aaron Rodgers suck ass all season.

Rodgers is no Brooks Bollinger, that’s for sure…

You forgot week 4, when the Bucs play Green Bay. Even without Favre, I think the Packers are a playoff caliber team.

But, dear Og, that’s going to be a HHHHHUUUUUUUUUGGGGEEEEE game if this trade goes through.

We don’t know. He might be.

The reason I say he’s going to suck is simply that he’s a first year starter and first year starters almost always suck. I know he’s going to be running for his life against the Vikings and Bears lines, for sure.

The Packers-Vikings-Bears games are almost always entertaining because of the rivalries. If we could only get the Lions to take the sport seriously…

And ruin all that tradition?

I don’t care who old man Favre goes to. I can’t wait to watch the first game of the sucker team that decides to play that past-his-prime, interception-throwing relic.

I wonder how huge of a game it will be. Tampa Bay and Green Bay aren’t natural rivals. Tampa Bay fans aren’t Eagles type fans known to be horrible to the opposing team.

I’d see it more like the 49ers/Chiefs game when Montana faced Steve Young.

That’s true. If it were only a typical Bucs v. Packers game, I agree that it wouldn’t be huge at all. But, it’s game 4, when the good teams are starting to separate from the not so good, and both the Packers and the Bucs are expected by most people to be in the playoff hunt, if not winners of their divisions. But when you add in Favre v. GB, there will be no end of the hype for the months prior to the game.

I think the animosity Favre has for the Packer’s front office is miles beyond that Montana had for the 49ers. And Favre plays with a ton more passion (and a lot less smarts) than Montana. He’ll be chomping at the bit to exact revenge.

Right. I lived in SF at that time, and most Niners fans viewed the situation realistically. They were sorry to see Montana go, but didn’t view either him or the team management as horrible villians. I think emotions will be much more charged in GB.

Champing, actually.

ESPN or someone apparently found out when Favre was leaving Green Bay by checking flight logs at local airports. You’d think this was Watergate, or at least a Vice Presidential pick. I hope they trade him tonight so we can begin the process of getting the hell past this. For all the speculation and back and forth, this looks like it’s going down exactly according to predictions from weeks ago - not mine, but many sports writers: he’ll be traded to Tampa or the Jets.

And I can’t wait to see the Cheeseheads come completely unglued when Aaron Rodgers rides the Pack to a 7-9 season. The streets in Green Bay will be awash with the blood of Packer management.

No kidding. It’ll be awesome when the entire first half of the season turns into the Brett Favre show, and he ends up screwing the pooch with the entire league watching intently. That won’t stop certain people (Cris Collinsworth, I’m looking at you) from falling all over themselves to pleasure the all-might Favre, but it’ll sure add new dimensions of hilarity to the saga!

I am deeply disappointed that he didn’t go to the Vikings or the Bears. For a moment, all of this wankery seemed worthwhile. I mean, i guess it’ll be fun when he suits up against the Pack in game 4…I’ll still be watching. Just not as much fun as it could have been.
