No kidding. It’ll be awesome when the entire first half of the season turns into the Brett Favre show, and he ends up screwing the pooch with the entire league watching intently. That won’t stop certain people (Cris Collinsworth, I’m looking at you) from falling all over themselves to pleasure the all-might Favre, but it’ll sure add new dimensions of hilarity to the saga!
I am deeply disappointed that he didn’t go to the Vikings or the Bears. For a moment, all of this wankery seemed worthwhile. I mean, i guess it’ll be fun when he suits up against the Pack in game 4…I’ll still be watching. Just not as much fun as it could have been.

Don’t look directly at Cris Collinsworth or you’ll become encased in a block of smarm.
ESPN or someone apparently found out when Favre was leaving Green Bay by checking flight logs at local airports. You’d think this was Watergate, or at least a Vice Presidential pick.
He was being interviewed by ESPN like a celebrity. <sigh>
I’m a long-time Packers fan and just have to shake my head at this whole situation. I’m proud of Ted Thompson for sticking by his guns, but I fear both he and Rogers will have the wrath of the fans breathing down their necks…and the bottom line is the fans pay the multi-million-dollar bills.
Watching ESPN earlier today, I heard yet another unsubstantiated comment about the seasoned players remaining with the Packers are somewhere between angry and pissed at Thompson for his decision. Are there any reliable reports of any of the players making public statements? If that is indeed the case, I fear that the team may be polarized by the Favres and Non-Farves which won’t be good for anyone.
foxsports.com is saying favre has been traded to jets for what is believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season.
Wow. Well, they always said the Jets were a contender to do this, but even with their iffy QB situation I didn’t think it made sense for them to do it. But realistically they’re only giving up a third round pick - they have to reach the playoffs for it to rise to a second-rounder. I guess they really think their free agent moves are going to let them bounce back to playoff contention.
Incidentally, if the Jets traded Favre to the Vikings, they would have to send Green Bay three more first-round picks.
As I said earlier, I think athletes are entitled to say in where they are playing or who they are playing for, because everybody else who works for a living has that right. But that changes when they start making moves that screw over their current employers - like making it clear in public that you will only play in certain places, thus putting your longtime and current employer over a barrel by preventing them from getting much in return for trading you. Favre has definitely moved into that territory regardless of whether or not he actually made the “beat their asses” comment.
Well, given he accepted a trade to Jets, I don’t think he really was ever that picky about where he was going.

Tampa will probably have to give up a second round pick for Favre. Even if Minnesota offers a first round pick for him, what does that gain Tampa? Minnesota with Favre is likely to be a top 10 team at worst, so basically Tampa moves up ten or fifteen slots in the draft, irritates their fans who will now have to watch Jeff Garcia stumble his way through another season, and pissess off Ted Thompson and Packer nation.
Their fans are quite happy with Jeff Garcia and his 94.6 passer rating, thank you very much (Favre’s was 95.7.)
I’m thrilled that my team didn’t waste a draft pick on Favre. We’ve already got a good-but-ancient quarterback, and he did just fine last year.
Could be as the Bears have already expressed no interest.
Yeah, we don’t need him, we’re totally set at the QB position.
People like **Dio ** can’t wait to see Rodgers get busted out, but just wait until you see the Bears this year man. I believe that Rex is actually working out a play where he throws the ball backwards. Orton starts tonight against the Chiefs, but they’ve already said that means nothing and I’m sure the wagons will circle around Grossman soon enough and the chants of “Rex is our quarterback” will begin echoing about Halas Hall any day now.
Most years we look forward to the Bears to take our minds off of the Cubs. This year at least we should still have the Cubs to keep our minds off the Bears. The Vikings are almost a lock on the NFC Central now.

Oh, pooh. So they’ve got a good running back (and run-blocking line) and the makings of a good defense. They still don’t have any wide receivers, a quarterback or any sign of improvement in the secondary.
They were 8-8(ish?) last year, and they’re still 8-8 until they actually show improvement on the field.
The NFC North is now the most wide-open division in the NFL.

I actually agree with this. We have no good clue what Greenbay will do this year and the Vikings still look like a seriously flawed offensive team at this point. The Bears just have the note QB issues and Detroit is Detroit. Unless Rodgers is a complete failure, Green Bay is still the team to beat in the North and they will probably not come close to 13-3 this year.
BTW: The Vikings were indeed 8-8 and the other two were 7-9 last year.

And it should hopefully make for an interesting season. 3 QBs who sit at the bottom of the rankings and one unproven question mark. Will be fun to see who actually steps up. How is Vegas even going to place the odds on these games?
That sucks. Now we won’t get to see him go back to Lambeau. What a bunch of gutless pigs that organization is. God, I hope Rodgers falls on his ass.

Why would you want someone to fail who had absolutely no part of what went on?? How is any of this Aaron Rogers’ fault?
It’s going to be really fun when Green Bay sweeps the two games from the Vikings this year. Beating Minnesota with Aaron Rogers at the helm will be quite sweet.

That would be like asking a **Giants ** fan why he wants the Eagles or in my case Tony Romo to fail. It is nothing specific against Romo, he is just the guy starting at QB for Dallas and of course I want him to fail.

Were this only true, I would weep blue and orange tears of joy. Everyone knows that we have quarterback problems, we’ve had them since Erik Kramer left. But everything we have on offense is questionable. Our O-line is pushing the upper age limits of the NFL and our running back situation is just as screwed up as our quarterback situation. Don’t even get me started about letting Berrien go to Minnesota and trying to replace him with Devin Hester. Our defense is injury plagued and can’t continue to carry the team for 16 games a season. We’re dead in the water without some major repairs going on. I still think that the Vikings are going to win it all in the division and win it easily.
