Brett Favre to the Vikings

I think this is serious too.

ESPN said he sent his xrays of the arm to the Vikes ,making it clear he was not interested. Then he said he didn’t send them. Then someone ,his agent, sent them. Then it wasn’t him. It is all very clear. He likes attention.

I think that’s just a touch simple. While he certainly likes the attention, he also still wants to play football in the NFL. The thing with Favre, though, is he doesn’t want to have to put in the work to play in the NFL. He doesn’t want to learn the playbook (ask the JETS), or attend off season activities, or get in shape, or bond with his teammates, or even practice. He would still be in the NFL if he could just show up on Sundays and do his thing without having to worry about stupid stuff like practicing, studying film, or dealing with teammates. Much of the retirement crap that has gone on in his career, I am convinced, was simply to get him out of having to practice in the offseason.

That could be. Favre seems to be the Allen Iverson of the NFL anymore. Minus the neck tattoo(s), of course.

Athlete with tremendous natural gifts, but who drives coaches crazy with his undisciplined, even careless style of play; history of substance abuse; prima donna tendencies; somewhat checkered history with teammates …

I hate being the guy to say this, but I think it’s true: Favre’s public image would be very, very different if he was a black guy from the inner city rather than a white guy from the deep south.

Can I say I enjoy that we have a Hamlet posting about Brett Favre? If Favre were a fictional character he’d be Hamlet, so…

Except that Hamlet wasn’t trying to get Shakespeare to talk about him. He just liked being moody and introspective.

Favre, on the other hand, wants everyone to talk about him, and will resort to being moody and introspective when the aw-shucks routing isn’t working.

I don’t think that’s quite true- Favre does at least offer lip service to the team concept, and is always talking about how much he loves the game (often with a single manly tear running down his cheek) and all that.

Favre makes sure the team always has a good story about why he’s not at practice- daughter’s softball game, wife’s cancer, retirement, etc.

Iverson, on the other hand, tried to justify missing practice just 'cause it ain’t important… and let’s face it, for him, at the time, it probably wasn’t. He still broke The Rule, though.

Lets also not forget that Favre decided to start dogging practice in…oh, year 15 of his career. Iverson pretty much did that from the start. Also, it doesn’t help that AI was doing it to spite a HoF coach.

Well, when you’re “The Answer”, you get to do that.

Will he ever go away?

No!

This August will be intolerable. ESPN will have to start a new network just to cover Favre 24 hours a day.

As soon as I post that link, ESPN comes in with “Breaking News”. Favre doesn’t consider surgery on his bicep to be imminent.

Go away Brett Favre!

Man, if I were to need that and was also thinking about playing again, I’d want to get it done as soon as possible, so that it had as much time as possible to heal. This waffling will only make it worse.

So it appears that Favre will stay retired.

Too bad. I was looking forward to having a reason to watch the Vikings this year.

Yeah, that a bummer. I was really looking forward to the double edged sword that would make Packer’s fan’s angry, bitter and betrayed and Vikings fans frustrated and disappointed with the Favre QB experience.

New thread:

Favre to Fox/ESPN/NBC/CBS?

Thanks for staying in Mississippi pops.

As a Vikings fan I am relieved to see this debacle is over. It’s bad enough we have to suffer through painful seasons of poorly made decisions, but the thought of trotting out the ringleader of our rivals who had caused so much teeth gnashing in the past was just too much to bear.

A friend took unparallelled joy at mocking me with this possible aquisition and when I told him precisely where he could stick Favre he shot back with the common “Don’t you guys WANT to win a Super Bowl?”

Favre hasn’t won a Super Bowl in 11 years. He hasn’t PLAYED in a Super Bowl for 10 years. In that time the Vikings have been to the playoffs as many times as the Packers and have gotten about as close to the big game as Favre has (if not closer).

The thought of having to choke down one more season with this broken down prima dona who doesn’t know when to stop playing attention whore and damage what legacy he had remaining in order to try to cash in a little more was almost too much to take. My wife even stated that should he be brought onboard she was switching to a Seahawks fan until he left.

I am glad to see this ugliness is behind us now.

I always like Brett, but I think it is not a bad move for him. And now maybe the Vikings and focus on the season.

Well the Vikings haven’t been to a Super Bowl in 30 years and haven’t won a Super Bowl…period. Nonetheless, the Pakcers have only been to the NFC Chapionship 1 time since then and are 3-6 in the playoffs since then. The Packers won 4 NFC North titles I believe since then.

The Vikings have been to the NFC Championship game twice since : a 41-0 thumping by the Giants, and an OT loss to the Falcons that bears much resemblance to the Packers OT loss to the Giants two years ago.

So it is kind of a wash betweeen the two teams since then, I would say.

Nuts, I was enjoying having him as a backup for Aaron Rodgers on my fantasy football team.

Bummer, I was looking forward to Hawk or Kampman laying a career ending sack on the self important bastard.

Now I’ll have to listen to a year of fans arguing that a Super Bowl was guaranteed if Favre would have played. Sagitavaris Rosenackson, welcome to a team that hates you.
