A lot of short-lived series I might’ve liked to see continue—I think Firefly had at least a season or two more good material in it. But the young little nerd still living within me wouldn’t forgive me for choosing anything except The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. What a great show.
(That or Freakazoid. Tragically, insufficient numbers paid heed to the opening lyrics:
He’s here to save the nation
So stay tuned to this station
If not, we’ll be unemployed
Freakazoid! Freakazoid!)
My wife also votes for Brimstone - she loved that show.
I wouldn’t mind another two-hours of Lost, episode name “The Picnic”, where all the principles go on a picnic and spend 2 hours explaining to each other what the hell went on.
Flipping channels the other day and ran across Donal Logue. He looked just like his character in Terriers and I’m all excited, thinking “They brought the show back!” or even “Here’s an episode I missed - yay!”
But it was House. I didn’t stick around to see if it was lupus.
Also Kidnapped with Jeremy Sisto, and that cool detective show with Jeff Goldblum from a few years back, where he communicated with victims.
Is this a whoosh? It’s back on right now except it’s called Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza. It’s got the same cast, the same games and only a few slight changes to the rules.
My pick would be Sym-Bionic Titan. Most cancellations don’t bother me but this one left me pretty stunned. I’d better at least get a movie to tie up the loose ends, damnit.
Dead Like Me - I just fnished watching the second season, but I haven’t seen the movie so I don’t know how much they wrap things up. Still, it seemed like there was a lot left to deal with in terms of George’s family, and the emotional growth of George herself.
Enterprise - it actually was getting pretty good before it got cancelled.
A few of my other picks have been chosen already (Crusade, or the blessed Firefly PBUH, may it be a leaf on the wind) so…either Vengeance Unlimted or Cybersix. (As you can tell, I’m working on my “horrifying fandom overlap” qualifications, this year)
Though I’m almost tempted to say “GI Joe, with the original writing staff, low-rent outsourced Toei animation, and surprisingly loose rein by Standards and Practices in some areas.”
Not just that episode of House but last week Logue was on one of the movie channels in The Tao of Steve (2000) which is a real fun movie. Logue’s the man!
A second mention of Kidnapped while I’m at it, which I saw again on Netflix not too long ago. A true lost gem of a show.
Carnivale. I feel like I harp on this cancellation all the time around here, so my apologies for sounding like a broken record. But honestly, the mythology and the proposals for the future seasons sounded so cool and it kills me that we’ll never get to see them.
Dead Like Me actually finished up its run (at the end of the second season) in a pretty good place. It really didn’t have to go on, although it would have been nice if it did. The movie added nothing significant to the story line. It was nice to see the characters again (Mandy Patinkin and Laura Harris were absent, but Reggie grew up rather nicely), but the movie overall kinda sucked.
Serenity wrapped up the Firefly series fairly well, but it had to cram a season’s worth of development into two hours. It would have been better to have let the second season run and wrap it up properly. It would have been nicer to let the series run for six or seven years, but you can’t have everything.
Yeah, but it only “wrapped it up” by directly violating the series. It was like bizarro-Jossverse, where Mal hadn’t already declared that the Tams were part of his crew and Simon briefly worked for Mission: Impossible. Do not like. Not Firefly. pout
