Brit Dope Winter 2003

Damnit you people! I cannot compete with Millies! Their cookies are far superior to mine. If you lot keep on going on about Millie’s cookies, I’m going to have performance anxeity and not be able to bake the best cookies that I can.

BISCUITS.

Hey, shut up – at least you have a kitten.

ianzin, I was envisioning an after-dinner quiz – say half past seven-ish. That should be late enough to collect the stragglers, but not so late that everyone will be too pissed to think. And besides, the final round will be far more entertaining (to me, that is) if both teams are well-lubricated at that point. muahahaha…

Sorry. Chocolate chip biscuits.

In fact, I am going home in the next few minutes, just so I can bake them. If you want some, email me.

will you email them back as an attachment?

Make sure your machine is enabled for cookies
(What? Someone had to say it!)

<chokes>

If you’re lucky, and if you can accept cookies.

Well, the cookies are lovely - my housemates ate about a third of them last night!

Now, I’m scared. Very very scared. Care to offer even a hint as to what this round will involve? I’ll bake more chocolate chip cookies…

Writing implements. Lateral thinking. Letters and numbers. Refrigerators. Millard Fillmore. That sort of thing.

Aaahh… Gyrate, wonderfully transparent as always. I’ll just sit here with my white choc chip cookies then. :stuck_out_tongue:

On a related note - I have a great recipie for mince pies, will November 29th be too early for mine pies?

mince pies, with a c in it.

very Shakespearian.

Oh Angua mine heart doth clamour for thine pies!

and if numbers are involved in the quiz then i’m going to be no help - there are five year olds who are better at maths than me.

Really?

I’ll see if I can dig out the recipe, and if so, you’ll be lucky lucky people, because you’ll get AnguaCookies[sup]TM[/sup], and mince pies, with a special orange pastry, so no ordinary mince pies.

No Angua, I don’t think Nov 29th is too early at all.

Note that they will henceforth always be known as ‘mine’ pies (or ‘thine’ pies when conjugated). Much classier.

We want white chocolate cookies and thine pies! Want want want!

(Anthropological note for Nov 29 first-timers: deferred gratification isn’t exactly a strong point among LonDopers. Try saying to Tir Tinuviel something like “Tell you what, we’ll just chat for half an hour or so and get the drinks in later shall we?”. You’ll be lucky if they can find enough of you left on the pub floor to fill half a bucket.)

Well, that settles that argument then.

Is that a reflection of the true nature of the cook, or merely sarcasm?

Calm down - they’ll taste all the better for the wait - the best things come to those who do after all, wait.

Hands up all those who can see me being up all night on the 28th November baking.

Very true. I remember last week on that programme about the human mind they did a test on some kids (about 6 years old i think) to prove that at that age the mind hasn’t developed sufficient control to defer gratification etc.

Basically they took them into a room with a sweet factory, let them choose their favourite sweet then sat them down and placed the sweet on a plate in front of the kid.

The child was then told that the adult was leaving the room and they could either:

  1. Eat that sweet now

  2. Wait five minutes and have three of that sweet when the adult got back.

Only one child managed to hold out for five minutes.

I’ve a feeling that if you did that test on the Londopers the result would be little different.

[sub]Hell, if it was done with beer then on Tir’s turn the adult wouldn’t have even finished listing the options.[/sub]

However, grarius, if we take DopeFests as typical human interaction scenarios, can you imagine what conclusions will be drawn from them?

Paging Dr. Kinsey…

Wouldn’t he be a bit smelly if he turned up now?

Yeh, and a bit green and flaky round the edges too by now.
