My favorite part of Easter each year is the arrival of Cadbury Creme Eggs, licensed here in the states by Hershey from Cadbury Ltd. in England. Sadly, it is only a seasonal thing, starting about a month before Easter Sunday, and remaining as long as the stores still have them at ever-reduced prices, usually lasting until early to mid-April.
I typically find my way into two or three for Easter, and then spend a few bucks in the week after Easter to grab as many as I can, usually getting about 20 eggs, as I can’t bring myself to hoard too many more than that.
Inevitably by the end of May, I’m out of eggs, and yearning for more, knowing that there will be a long wait until the next March, when they once more appear on the shelves.
This year, the sadness has led me to actually look up Cadbury’s website, and the gist I get is that you lucky Brits get to have Cadbury Creme Eggs year 'round! Is this so? And if it is, anybody willing to be my supplier for those fallow fall months?
Are they made over there by Hershey or do they import them? I’m asking because i’d have thought the chocolate will taste different if they’re being made in yankland.
Everything Cadbury in the US has the distinctive Cadbury flavor, definitely not a Hershey’s flavor. I don’t know that it’s identical, but it’s sure good.
I dunno, a lot of the appeal of the Creme Egg is that it’s only around for a little while. If Creme Eggs were always available, I probably wouldn’t like them so much. mmmm.
Creme Eggs have quite a short shelf life. The ‘creme’ tends to crystalise after a while and can be quite unpleasant (though quite safe). Cadbury got quite pissed off with complaints as stores were over-stocking to ensure a supply past the Easter period, which went bad. In response they started making them all year round. Creme eggs are still only advertised seasonaly and AFAIK McDonalds Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry is only available in the run up to Easter.
I honestly don’t know what the fuss is about with creme eggs; sure, I’ve eaten my fair share of them in the past, but it’s just a big glob of sugar coated in chocolate.
I have to agree with Lobsang, creme eggs are far too rich for me. My favourite Easter treat would have to be Cadbury’s mini eggs which AFAIK are still seasonal.
I can’t see anything in the OP’s cite to suggest they are made all year round, nor has anyone else provided one. They are certainly not available year-round where I live, though I wish they were! More info, please?
