43 here and mostly sunny. It looks like most of the snow we got Saturday will melt and then become ice just in time for me to drive home tonight. :smack:
20[sup]o[/sup] and 6" of snow Friday, 60[sup]o[/sup] today.
It is nor boring, there is that.
:dubious:
Thanks for all the good wishes yesterday re: my moving situation. I would have responded sooner but my internet had a delayed reaction to the power going out Saturday went out yesterday. That’s something I look forward to having: a modem I can control.
The plow went down my street yesterday. From the looks of it this morning, all it did was polish the sheet of ice covering the road. Fortunately it’s 48 whole degrees now so the ice is finally melting. Just in time for me to go out and run some errands, only this time I won’t slide like I did yesterday. (More information about my slide can be found in this month’s minirants thread.)
Well, that was an exercise in futility! About 5 minutes after I turned off my computer and headed out the door, the base posted that they remained on restricted access - meaning don’t come to work. I missed that. So I ran my errands and got all the way to the parking lot when a coworker coming the other way said the place was closed. Another coworker was sitting in the smoking pavilion waiting for 11:00. None of us got any notification. So we all left. Moral of the story - check FB often. Dammit.
But I did get a bunch of errands done - credit union, Food Lion (all out of milk!!!), Wal Mart, gassed up the car, got a soda, and on the way home, I stopped at Aldi’s. I think in a little while, I’ll go dig out a better path to the mailbox. There’s no way the mail truck can get up to our box and I know they don’t get out for anything. Not that we get much mail anyway…
I still don’t know why the base is closed - the roads were clear and most of the parking lots seemed cleared also. Oh well.
1:15 p.m. here in northern New Jersey, and it’s about 35 degrees outside. Most of you folks sound like you live in places where it’s downright balmy.
Blurf!
MMOOOOMMMM Reminds me of one time after a hurricane when several days had passed and no official word I decided to come to work. One hour commute to be turned away at the gate. I was very pissed at my supervisor for not letting me know one way or another. We have/had very poor communication. Now I would know enough to wait it out. I was getting admin pay anyway I think, or should have been.
I am not wanting to do a lot of anything. Moanday Mornin’ Blues. At least I have the King Louie with me today for entertainment.
Oh Red reminded me of this:BLURF
We’ve crept above 40° and I worked up a sweat digging a better path to the mailbox. If the postman can’t deal with it, we’ll just have to do without mail till the spring thaw… Altho next week, we’re promised 50s - we shall see.
The piles of snow in the various parking lots around here were topping 7’ - they’ll take a while to melt down.
How will your various plants fare?
The plants should do fine. While the amount of snow is pretty high for a single occurrence, it’s not extreme, nor are the temps. Near as I can tell, the main casualty will be the little patch of grass that the front end loader dug into, but I expect that’ll fill in pretty quickly.
Higgs went for a run in the yard, bounding on top (mostly) of the snow. I couldn’t leave her out there because she can’t get up on the deck - it’s still covered - so I had to wait while she frolicked. I supposed I could clear the deck a little bit.
32 on Saturday night, 38 last night. but it popped up to 64 already so yay! Never really expected those low temps here in FL, I left my electric blanket back in IL… so I ordered another one this morning.
And there’s a path from the back door to the deck. Now, in theory, we can just let Higgs out to frolic.
Where in FL? My daughter is in Orlando and she was whining about lows in the 50s. When we lived in Jacksonville, there were more than a few times it got below freezing.
East coast by Daytona. Coming from IL I’m used to a deep freeze, just wasn’t expecting it here!
Yeah, them Florida freezes are sneaky!
There were some actual snow flakes in Jasper Fl. Very near the Ga line. Probably melted as soon as it hit the ground.
As a North Kakalakan, I am offended that there is still snow on the ground. The sun came out yesterday, shouldn’t all this be gone by now?
I’ve spent the last hour playing with my budget to see what kind of rent I can afford. Results: not much more than what I’m paying now. I’d like to find a cheaper place but that ain’t likely to happen up here in the high country, especially since the real estate market is back on its feet. But then I haven’t started looking yet so I don’t know what’s out there. Maybe I’ll get lucky. It’s happened before.
It’s a sunny 31 degrees here, I haven’t looked out the front door yet. I expect that a good bit of the snow is melting in the sun, so it can freeze into black ice after the sun sets
It’s been a messed up day.
The dog won’t get off the porch, or at least not intentionally. It’s only two half steps down to the deck, but he is afraid, so he won’t go. So what does the little ass do? One side of my porch has no railing (not that a railing would stop him, he’d just walk under it) and it’s about a three foot drop, so he, who never goes that way, walks off the edge of the porch. Fortunately the snow cushioned his fall, unfortunately he couldn’t get himself out of the snow. Then after Sah-son rescued him he tried to run the other way out the gate and into the front yard. Not that he is running very fast in this snow.
He’s been wanting go out the front door, maybe he thinks there’s no snow out that way?
The we had a horrible odor in the house. Sah-son was flipping out because it kind of smelled like burnt oil or diesel fuel. He thought either the house would blow up or we’d be gassed to death. I thought it might be the neighbor’s snow blower, or maybe the vent pipe to the furnace was blocked with ice, but we finally traced it to the laundry tub in the basement. We never use it and I think the water in the trap evaporated - we went through this once before. So he ran some water and that seems to have taken care of it. I told him from now on when he changes the furnace filter to let the water run for a bit.
Then I made myself a hot dog for lunch. I took one bite out of it and went to get online, bumped the plate and the hot dog went flying. Sah-dog might be old, half blind, and half deaf, but he can find a hot dog quick enough. He got a nice lunch out of it.
Good luck with the house hunting Big Kitty. I don’t envy you the move, but I hope you find something better for less money.
Howdy Y’all! Irk has been survived and I am waitin’ on OYKW to show up with The General’s dindin. 'Tis nice and sunny out and tomorrow will be the same. Then rain on Wednesday. We shall see.
Supper was chickie tenders, broccoli, and shells-n-cheese. The leftover chickie has been converted into chickie salad for my sweetie’s lunch. I made up his lunch and my lunch, and loaded the dishwasher. Now it’s chillage time. Yay!
Looks like I go in normal time tomorrow, and Firday is my normal day off, so this will be a 3-day work week. Huzzah!
