To answer your question: No. Bryan explained his perspective, actually acknowledging and responding to the points I made, which is something that his superficial defenders never bothered to do (except, after a fasion, John Mace). He could have just come in here and been a dick, but he took what I had to say seriously. That really earns my respect.
“It was a joke” is SOP for that crew when the noose tightens up a bit.

I suppose if I had come in guns blazing, you would not now be engaged in this bizarre and unconvincing reversal of attitude, but rather adding more posts to this thread at a frantic pace, using quotes from my response to “prove” your point to no-one’s satisfaction but your own.
I have, in fact, been composing the gist of my earlier reply for months, in case I was ever Pitted (again) and thus given an opportunity to talk about my posting style and cite some of my favourite quips. You’ve given me the opportunity but your claimed new-found respect for me will not soften in the least my stance against your particular variety of superstition and pseudoscience, even if I believed you, which I do not. Make of that what you will, including viewing yourself as a martyr if you wish.

First of all, mswas never called his thread a joke himself. I said that there were jokes within the thread.
Second, there is a difference between a Pit thread comprising a joke and being a “joke thread,” which is considered a violation of SDMB rules. I don’t think any of us in “that crew” have ever done a “joke Pit thread.”
I don’t remember if that was the case or not, but I certainly didn’t defend mswas universally, found some of his posts racist and offensive, and regret that he couldn’t combine his insights into a more rational overall perspective.
By the way, here’s a quip that I made in GQ (re: the original marshmallows in Lucky Charms cereal) and it went over quite well. It was nominated for “Best Ever in a Breakfast-related food thread”.

As far as I’m concerned, your post was a validation of my OP stated in a very reasonable and rational tone. So indeed I am satisfied. And we have set the stage for many reasonable and mutually respectful interactions in the future.

All well and good but a bit off point. I never accused anyone of starting a “joke thread.” (Nice attempt at misdirection, by the way.) I said that the claim “I was joking” was used as an escape from a logically tenuous position.
I provided two cites, both from you. You claimed he was joking in the Pit thread. You also claimed -
-in reference to a GD thread (it is right there in your first sentence.)

OK, but, again, a post that includes jokes or ribbing or whatever is not the same thing as saying, “I was just goofing around,” to backpedal, etc., per your comment about “SOP.”
