BSG Season Finale: Unboxed Speculation on MAJOR SPOILERS

“People are strange
when you’re a Cylon.
Faces look ugly
when you’re chrome.
Humans seem wicked
when you’re unwanted
Cover uneven when it’s blown.”

What rules are those? What, in the show, gave anyone the idea that the Meatbags had to be under a certain age?

Lots of people on the SDMB decided that was how it had to be. Tell me what on the show brought you to that conclusion.

Besides, our final four (or five) may be the originals. Like, around since Kobol or before. That means these five aren’t part of The Plan, instead they are Adambot and Evebot.

We’ll see.

How could that be, if humans created the Cylons within recently recorded history. Nothing in either series, IIRC, has implied that the Cylons were thousands of years old. If they were, why the original toasters?

Since we’re discussing the spoilers I’ll throw out a few more I’ve heard (most of these are, or were on TWOP for a while). Dunno how accurate any of them are, but…

Part of what gets Baltar off the hook is that Caprica testifies that when she and Baltar were having sex she infected him with “Cylon DNA”. (This is apparently the explanation of “Head Six”) Through this they were somehow able to manipulate him and so they were responsible for his actions, not him.

The “Cylon DNA” can be passed on from one person to another. Ellen Tigh was infected with it when she was with Brother Cavil and she passed it on to Tigh. Tyrol was infected from his time with Boomer. Not sure how Tori and Anders got it though. (IIRC Anders has been frakking Tori to get over Starbuck and got it from her, but I don’t recall hearing how Tori got infected in the first place. Supposedly Cally is also infected from Tyrol. I didn’t hear anything about Helo.)

As for Jimi Hendrix, way back in the podcast for Kobol’s Last Gleaming, RDM said that his original plan for Baltar in the opera house would be for him to hear music playing and that it would be recognizable as Jimi Hendrix. Baltar would follow the music and would find Dirk Benedict, who would introduce himself as God. That was the original plan for the first season cliffhanger. Guess he couldn’t give up on the idea.

I’ve seen the Roboclap idea a couple of places. Not a big fan of the idea. In theory, though, Anders would have been infected by Starbuck, who was infected by Baltar. Of course, a large number of the available males would have been infected by Starbuck, who would have then infected other people, until the whole fleet had roboclap.

Oh, I didn’t say I liked the idea, just that I heard it. Personally, I hope it’s wrong.

Good point on Baltar -> Starbuck -> Anders though, I missed that. If Anders did turn to Tori to get over Starbuck then we have Anders -> Tori after that. At least that explains where that infection came from.

Roboclap == funny…

Assimilation via microscopic organisms == used idea and bad… (Hello, Borg anyone?).

Not so much “rules” as to the age of the cylons (Brother Cavill nidely eliminated that) but moreso that particular charectors (Adama, Tigh, etc) could not be Cylon based on thier age and overall history… they were alive and part of the inital cylon war - before the meat toasters were created.

I’m starting to like the idea, perhaps becuase I had it long ago, that the meattoasters were clones of (or based on) the original Lords of Kobol, and that the final five could be anyone… would explain Kara’s drawings, Chiefs recollections, etc… if done properly… what it wouldn’t explain would be their conversion to the “one god” mentality. (Since our charectors refer to them as Gods)… but that could be an interesting set of episodes for next season.

I got the notion of “rules” from here:

Only started watching the show last summer, but I’ve read most (maybe all) of the episode summaries at Battlestar Wiki…

Another consecutive post…so be it.

Something occurred to me last night…of our 4 “new” cylons, at least 3 of them (Tigh, Chief, and Anders) were participants in that Star Chamber vigilante group that spaced Jammer, and almost spaced Gaeta…don’t remember if Tori was involved with that or not…

Anders wasn’t. He was invited to join but didn’t want anything to do with it. They replaced him with Starbuck.

He quit, but didn’t he at least participate in one of the hearings?

Please tell me you’re kidding. I would hate if “all this has happened once” stuff actually alluded to BSG the original series.

Nope. Here’s the actual transcript from the podcast:

Way too many assumptions in there for me.

Age. Cavill was probably one of the oldest people we’ve seen on the series, so that really can’t be a fact.

“Can’t have kids”. Well, for a possible female Cylon. Hell, Adama could still be one of the five*. There’s no guarantee that his wife’s children were actually biologically his, if you know what I mean. Especially how unhappy their marriage seemed.

“Confirmed character history”. Very weak. If Tigh is one of them, that means he infiltrated as far back as his first meeting with Adama. And? That means nothing - it just means he infiltrated some time ago. There’s nothing that says that can’t be the case.

“it is assumed the Cylons had no models advanced enough to plausibly pass as humans (i.e. androids and gynoids), so if someone is confirmed to have lived during or participated in the war 40 years ago, that person is not a Cylon”. That’s just an assumption, plain and simple.

“Within two years of the war”. That’s silly. Just because Boomer may have infiltrated near the timeframe of Adam’s ‘Bulldog’ incident doesn’t mean they all did. She (along with the others) could easily have been part of a second wave, with the first wave consisting of the original five. A species with a long lifespan and pretty much infinite patience (remember Cavill’s speech?) has no reason to not have a knife to the Colonies’ collective throats. Keep it there for a hundred years, but don’t bother making a move until you feel provoked or threatened.

“As only a humanoid Cylon can “return” from the dead, any human character that dies is instantly disqualified from suspicion.” Nope. Just because someone dies does not make them disqualified. It just can’t be confirmed until we see them wake up in a HotSnotTub.

So, I’m not going to say that people can’t throw out all the theories they want, but that page just invented a framework (an extremely flawed one IMNHO) and then slotted characters into it.

*Did he ever get tested? I remember he and Roslyn keep bumping each others’ tests to the top of the queue - but did either ever get done?

On the Cavil’s age thing, I don’t think Cylons age the way humans do. They aren’t babies who grow into adulthood, they’re created as adults–ie, I think Cavill has pretty much always looked the age he does now…he may have only existed for a few years, but his body appears to be that of an older man.

Most likely, but you never know.

Still, it’s like the kid thing. We can disqualify people if they have kids…because nobody ever adopts or anything!

Since we’re deep into spoilers, here’s one about the spin-off series, Caprica. From the Patriot Resource.

So, I can’t prove precisely that humans didn’t create Cylons back on Kobol two thousand years ago or anything; I get the impression Colonials created them around 50 years ago, maybe 60 years.

At the end of the first Cylon war 40 years ago, humans were still fighting the old-fashioned toasters. They even have the head from one on display in the port launch bay/museum. It was a complete surprise to humans that Cylons “look like us now,” during the mini-series.

My WAG though, is around the time of the Cylon uprising and war, there were a few - let’s call 'em “five” - Cylons who were evolving behind the scenes, and directing things. Maybe they traveled to earth, and/or tapped into the space “between life and death” which supposedly the Hybrids goof around in, came back, signed an armistice, and planted the “final five” we’re supposedly going to meet here at the end of the third season, into the Colonies.

I don’t think the humanoid Cylons’ apparent age means very much. Cavil and Sharon could be the same age, whatever that turns out to be. 10, 20, 35 years old? But I don’t think any of the seven we know are older than the end of the first Cylon war, at most.

Another point to ponder…Tigh, Chief, Anders, & Tori do not correspond with the pictures Xenabot drew of her visions. This group would make the gender split 7-4, and I think the way Xenabot drew it would come out 6-6.

Well, Part 1 of Crossroads has aired. Looks like the spoilers were pretty close. I was not able to identify the music as “All Along the Watchtower”. Was begining to think maybe Chief was not going to be a Cylon, don’t remember him hearing the music…but then the preview pretty much confirmed at least Tigh and Anders are Cylons, and that sounded like Chief’s voice speaking the line that will live in infamy. The preview also confirmed there will be a 3-2 verdict, and appeared to show Baltar celebrating.

Whoever chooses the preview should be flogged. Only Big Thing they didn’t tip off is the return of Starbuck…

I’m still pretty sure that it was Anders’ voice in the preview – although I agree with the firing squad for whomever chose to put that in there.

I had also read the spoilers as that the music was indistinct at first, and would gradually clarify into something recognizable. I just figured they were saving that “shocker” for next episode.
