Cable Company Woes

Recently, I had a sprinkler system installed in my front and back yard. Before the work began, I called all of the utility companies that have lines running through my yard, and asked them to come out and mark the yard to let the workers know where the lines were. All of the companies came out and spray painted lines on the grass to indicate where not to dig (or at least where to dig very carefully). You would think that with the lines marked on the grass that you could dig with abandon in the areas of the yard without marks, but you would be wrong in this case. The cable company had failed to mark one of the lines, and my cable line was cut. I called the cable company to ask them to come out to fix it, and they told me that it would be a week before they would come to fix it.

Here’s my question: Do you think the cable company should have come to fix the broken line ASAP?

I can understand giving service in order of request for things such as installation, or upgrading to digital, but the reason the line was cut was the cable company’s fault. Am I being unreasonable in expecting to be put higher on the list of their priorities?

Things are random only insofar as we don’t understand them.

Dam right the cable co. needs to fix that line NOW! after all it was their fault the line was in your yard, and it was their fault that you wanted sprinklers put in your yard. So what you gonna do cancel your cable service??

yea right

Sure it was the cable companys fault. And GFL on getting them to pay it. It won’t happen. They are god and they know it. You should file a lawsuit, but you would be better off just paying for others to fix it for you. The cable company does not care about you or me, and why should they ?? They have a monopoly in every sense of the word, but no one has checked them on it yet. At least, no one who has ever beaten them . Be a good boy and consent. If you do not, it will be sattelite and no local channels for you.

Nanno,

Your post may have been justified had I simply started digging once I had decided that I wanted the sprinkler system. What I did though, was to ask the cable company come to my house, and tell me where ALL of their lines were buried in my yard. They agreed to do this and said that they had when, in fact, they had not. The people who installed the sprinkler system interpreted the lack of paint in the rest of the yard as a sign that they could dig freely in those areas (as any reasonable person would). Perhaps they should have treated my yard as an archeological dig, where they remove only a few grains of dirt at a time? No, there should be no reason for that. That’s why I asked the utility companies to mark their lines. Damn… what if natural gas company was the one who screwed up? Someone could be dead. I suppose you wouldn’t expect them to be held accountable in any way? After all… it would have been “their fault that (I) wanted sprinklers put in (my) yard”… right?

You take your car into the mechanic to install a new stereo system, and while it is at the mechanics shop, the mechanic wrecks you car while driving out of the work bay. You come to pick your car up at the end of the day, only to be told about the wreck. Wouldn’t you expect your car’s repairs to be at the top of the to-do list at that shop? Using your reasoning, it would be fine with you for the mechanic to put your car at the bottom of the list… just as if it were a new job coming in.

I had just asked for opinions. It’s possible (and I’ve actually seen others do it) to give a dissenting opinion without being an ass. You may want to look into giving that a try in the future.

Why don’t you do it yourself? A couple bucks for a cable joiner at the hardware store & youre all set.

BTW, they do come out right away IF your line is laying on the street…They did for me

Also, here & probably where you are, the City Council has the power over the cable company, believe it or not. The city council votes on what rates & service, etc, to expect for the dollars you give, from the cable company.

Iknow, I just got a letter from our Council. But, shucks, they said its been 20!!! years since they negotiated with them.
