I put this in the pit because that is where it has to go… But I liked my thread.
And plus, I think it actually provides some interesting information that a lot of guys didn’t know.
So let me get this straight? My thread got closed because it was a “spin-off?” And what are, we too sensitive or sheltered to deal with the discussion of our bodies?
I didn’t want to pit you, but mainly your deciscion. I can’t stand it when people have such an easily offended attitude towards sex and our bodies. Its the most natural thing and shouldn’t be that bad.
And seriously, this thread was WAY less TMI than the others. I mean I wasn’t graphically describing what mine looked or smelled like. I was just using general terms to describe female genetalia and how some had a more pleasant odor than others. What’s wrong with that? So it wasn’t even really TMI to the max.
I was sad to see not only that one but also the other TMI threads reagarding bodily fluids/odors shut down. We allow really harsh words to be thrown around in the pit without a second glance but a lighthearted and interesting thread about the functions of the human body is off limits?
We’re grown-ups here, it seems unneccesary to tell us what’s too naughty to share.
And while I understand the need to keep MPSIMS from becoming overloaded with TMI threads, killing several active entertaining threads seems a bit much. It would have been nice to see a couple run their course and then later threads closed if it becomes excessive.
I wouldn’t mind if MPSIMS always had a TMI thread or two. It’s fun.
Frankly, I don’t even understand the “TMI” thing. I mean, I suppose it’s nice to warn people of potential grossness, but the concept is irksome. I’d rather be warned before entering a political thread, or a thread on computer programming. Neither interest me, and least one disgusts me, and both are often misleadingly titled. Why is it only body functions that get warning labels?
And then, even with a warning, the threads are closed? WTF? Are we here to fight ignorance of everything except our own bodies? That’s ridiculous, and not true, since there’s lots of medical threads. So is it just sexual ignorance that’s not fightable? That’s just stupid.
Hello, pan fried semen, anyone? At least this thread asked a legitimate question. It wasn’t designed specifically to tittilate or disgust or cause dissention.
If I was a little more paranoid, I’d wonder if it was simply because women (myself included) were sharing our sexual knowledge; it wasn’t just a boys’ game.
He closed a thread in which I’d talked about my baby girl’s poo-poo. Now what could be more natural than a baby’s pooh? Discussions of taint? I knew we were being a little scandalous in that thread, but it really surprised me when it was shut down. Howsomever, I do appreciate the mods & don’t want to complain. I’d just like some clarification on this TMI business - I looked in the rules & couldn’t find anything.
Well, I certainly hope not. One of the things I’ve always appreciaated about this boad is its relative frankness on the important and much-abused topic of sex. If discussions of sexual matters were to be dialed back, I’d regard it as a sad end to an important part of the board’s uniqueness and strength.
I don’t buy your hunch. For a while it seemed like the P in MPSIMS stood for “penis”, I’m pretty sure that they were discouraging any new penis threads for a while. Same deal here.
Several threads have been closed because they are TMI and for no other reason than that they are TMI despite some of them having clear requests for information. IMHO Cajun Man is acting like some sort of nanny figure trying to enforce decency in the MPSIM, so Boo to him.
TMI threads should be allowed - if properly labeled. Many of us have complained about encountering them while eating. OTOH, I agree it is an important part of this board, and it’s good to have a place to discuss topics of sexuality and other bodily functions.
If MPSIMS is expected to maintain a certain level of “decency”, then why not add a TMI forum? We already have a complaints/attacks/cussing forum (this one), so a TMI forum would seem to be a reasonable compromise.
Alls I’m sayin is that either tell us to put all TMI stuff in the pit from now on, or that we simply won’t discuss it because its “nasty and unnatural.” And we should get our minds out of the gutter. You know that people with real morals only do it missionary style with as much shame as possible for procreation purposes.
Come on! They our bodies. Some of us treat them like our own personal “amusement park” while others may treat theirs like some kind of religious idol.
I’ll be okay with seeing TMI threads in the pit, but it seems a little wierd. The pit is for anger. TMI is certainly not anger. That’s why mod complaints go in the pit because they could spiral into anger and do a lot of times. But TMI threads? What’s it going to go like? “no, no, no…YOU smell like dead fish!” “No, No, NO! MEN definately smell the worst!”
Why don’t we just bite the bullet and have a sex-related forum. There are plenty of us with “unclean” minds here that would love to get our kicks by sharing our own weirdness.
Ate my age – The Age of Ancient Squeamishness – I rarely read the TMIs. But I think that they often serve to fight ignorance. Just wish something so frank had been around when I was trying to figure everything out.
The particular OP in question seemed reasonable to me. That’s as far as I read. As long as these are labeled “TMI,” they probably shouldn’t be closed just because they are gross.* Maybe there was another reason.
If someone is offended by baby poo, I wish triplets upon them. I’ve been looking for a certain color of paint that I call “baby dookey green.” Try telling that to the people at Home Depot.
The idea that offshot threads are bad is a problem as well. Isn’t it supposed to happen that if there is an interesting hyjack in one thread that it should have a new thread created dedicated to the hyjack to stop the hyjack from spoiling the original thread?
