I don’t consider the thread a flat-out game, but of the three things addressed in the stickie (game, post party, padding) game is the only one that seemed possibly to apply. Now people are suggesting padding, which wasn’t my intention.
Asking for clarification from a Mod is “whining” now?
But what was your intention? You haven’t made that clear. It’s not obvious what the “game” was supposed to be - which is one reason it might have been taken for something else.
I felt like the tone was set by the “you know better” in the locked thread.
Sorry, by the way, for the “snark” comment earlier. I guess I read your comments in a tone you didn’t intend. Speaking of tones and all.
My intention was to start off the song and see if it got continued straight through to the end, whether there would be diversions from the song, to see if the thread evolved into something else. Just trying to have a little fun and maybe help some other people have a little fun. If it had continued with just the song then the thread would have run about 100 posts, two pages, and probably died. If it had taken off in some other direction, as it appeared it was going to, who knows how long it would’ve run. I didn’t think of it as a “game” when I started it, along the lines of a trivia contest or the Truth or Dare thread or whatever, but since it’s definitely not a post count party and since, with over 13,000 posts I have no need or interest in count-padding, “game” was the only thing left in the linked stickie.
Again, I’m not upset in the least that the thread was locked. I just don’t get the whole “you know better” business. It does feel like an accusation that I deliberately broke some glaringly obvious rule.
I’m willing to accept Otto’s word that it wasn’t a game thread. Even with the process of elimination, I don’t think it necessarily makes it a post-count thread. I seriously doubt the guy with over 13,000 posts sat and said to himself, “Hmmm…I could use a few dozen more to reach that 13,175 milestone!”
I think it was just goofy and it got shut down for being superfluous.
When I sigh that it seems the place has been overmoderated lately, I’ll remind myself what even longtime members seriously believe to be valid content and remember what the place would be like without the moderation it has.
