Calvin and Hobbes - wisdom you live by.

Calvin talking to his dad: “Dad, how does soldiers killing each other solve the wrold’s problems?” Dad sits and looks at him blankly in the next two panels. Last panel is Calvin stomping off- “Sometimes I think grownups only think they know what they’re doing”.

And every single one with one of Calvin's snowmen!

Darn you all, I had to go and read every C&H cartoon on that site! In any case that comic is probably one of the most realistic examples of what goes through a childs mind there is. Every panel is like a flashback for me. Especially the bits about the monsters under the bed.

C: This is what I like about photography. People think cameras always tell the truth.

C: They think the camera is a dispassionate machine that records only facts, but really, cameras lie all the time! Select the facts and you manipulate the truth!

C: [sitting on bed with pile of toys off to one side] For example, I’ve cleared off this corner of my bed. Take a picture of me here, but crop out all the mess around me, so it looks like I keep my room tidy.

H: Is this even legal?
C: Wait, let me comb my hair and put on a tie.
It’s funny because it’s true!

Note: it’s not about digital image editing/faking pictures, as most people in the C&H livejournal community seem to think. It’s about editing with the camera so you only show what you want to show. The latter is perfectly acceptable in the photography business, if not always morally right; we* do it all the time, especially in magazine pieces that are intended to show a particular viewpoint (not so much in the newspapers, of course).
